We have truly had some great adventures in this one little move. This move was like no other… each buying process and move is different- but this one was like no other. It got so crazy that my husband asked if I was sounding like a little girl and people weren’t really listening to me… and then he took control- untangled one mess- shook his head and gave it back to me with a very understanding look in his eye. He is almost too tolerant now.
Firstly, we never saw the inside of a realtor’s office. It was handled all on line, except for the title company. Closing is the only thing done in-house now. The rest is they use E- signing for the documents and texting, phone-calls, and emails for all managing like seeing homes, loans, warranties, HOA, agent contracts, and support. You set your goals- like distance, size, price- what’s important to you and they set you up to select from a portal for MLA. Then your agent checks if the house is still available and what the listing agent wants before viewing. Then we meet at the first house and go from there. This is a tough buyer’s market out there. We already had lost a bid and we were feeling the push because interest rates had already gone up a point.
So we found this darling little- sixteen- plus hundred square foot house, and over bid, accepted a lease back, and compromised in bringing the home up to standards. But we got what we wanted in the end and feel it’s a good trade. The first mystery we had to solve was ‘Where is the moving truck?’ We waited the window time, called and found out the truck had mechanical issues and we were re- scheduled for the next day. So we went out for a burger and to re- group, and found two- blocks from us a moving truck on fire. Things you do not know...
So the next day after they move us, the next mystery begins- here the dryer hook up requires a 4 prong instead of the 3 prong we had at the rent house. What makes this a pain is they delivered our big heavy washer and dryer into this itty bitty utility room and now the requirements to plug in the dryer extend to- you must be nimble and thin to crawl over the top of the dryer to get behind it to plug it in- my husband and passed I that mark about 3 decades ago. So now this is our problem to solve. So we go to re- group at the same place we bought the w/d and arrange for them to hook it up and bought our king size bed we had been saving up for. In a couple days they come and deliver the bed. Now what makes this a teeny- tiny pain is that you can buy two types of king size beds- either a king size bed or a split bed. We bought the split type- but they delivered king size sheets which the package only has two sheets, and we needed king-split with three sheets. And then the dryer guys show up with a 3 prong. So we call and arrange for the sheets to be exchanged and for them to come back with a 4 prong.
The next day a different team shows up because yesterday they had sent the wrong team due to locale. This team shows up with a 3 prong. When the proverbial 'jacks had fallen and the marbles settled', we learn that when we originally purchased the dryer it was delivered as a 4 prong- but our rent house required a 3 prong and the team just happened to have a 3 prong to switch out and they took the 4 prong back with them but never noted that the dryer now had a 3 prong. What’s that saying…? “No good deed goes un- punished’.
With the transfer of living quarters completed, we are out of boxes and things in their respective spaces. Hanging up pictures is going well with my Feng Shiue book under my arm- except I hit a dry spot with the hall way and my imagination… maybe today it will come to me. So I ask you... what emotions should you have in a hallway?
My poor friend has tried to call and support me through this move and I have not done much in the relationship. My friends even sent me a green heart and a dragon tooth. Please call yourself out because I do want to thank you!- I loved also, weirdly enough, the combination of them sending pictures of their animals and them calling and hearing their amusement as I try to disentangle them-Okay that makes me half- bad.
When we bought this house it came with a warranty and a house inspection, for things to be brought up to standard- an industry term. Well we find out after we move in the control stem on the shower is leaking, but because it was 'called out' (another industry term) on the inspection, then the warranty does not cover it. What makes this a pain is that though it is a normal size shower it has been remodeled into a 6 shower head surround water and plumbers are standing me up like a first time girl at a prom- Plumbers do not like these jobs because they are concerned if parts are replaceable or if it is all one unit (cost) and how much wall they have to tear out- these are losing situations for plumbers.
Everyone who looks at my kitchen just smiles. It is tucked in an open corner, an important note, because there isn’t a lot of wall space because it’s cabinets, counters, and appliances. The kitchen walls are more peeping around the cabinets and my walls are maroon- red and my dominate cabinets are white. The floors alternate black squares and white squares. It is absolutely charming.
Also, this house comes with a beautiful wrap around covered porch! I think it’s getting coffee time.
