Strep Tonsilitis.............. The Chicken Whisperer

  Author:  64819  Category:(Discussion) Created:(8/28/2015 8:02:00 PM)

In April for the first time in my life I acquired strep throat.at the age of 32. Since then I have got it five more times. I am averaging once a month.

The last time that I went in and tested positive the dr said she was going to send me to an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat dr). True to her word, even though another Dr saw me today, I am being sent to the ENT. There is a high possibility that I will have to get my tonsils taken out. The thing is I'm not getting strep in my throat but, I am actually getting it in my tonsils. The nurse did three swabs on me today. One for each tonsil, and one for my throat. My right tonsil tested positive. They do believe that I am a carrier, and due to this reasoning is why my tonsils may have to be removed.

Had I acquired strep as a child I would have long had them removed. Many people my age don't get their tonsils removed. Not really looking forward to surgery, but I don't want to continue getting strep either. Today makes my fifth round of antibiotics for this. The past three times I have had shots in my rear YOWZA!!! In fact my rear was still tender from the last shot I got which was about three weeks ago. I tested positive twice in July.

I hate surgery. Unless it is like an extreme circumstance you usually never feel better afterward. I don't think anyone generally looks forward to a non elective surgery.

Don't give me the line of all the ice cream and Popsicles I want either. I happen to not be too big of a fan of either. I like them and all, but it is a rare occasion when I eat them. Very sensitive teeth keep me from enjoying most icy and cold things. In fact I hardly ever put my sodas in the fridge cause they hurt my teeth straight from the fridge.

Date: 8/28/2015 8:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 67327    Oh man sorry to hear that. I got strep throat a lot as a kid, a teenager, and an adult, but nobody mentioned anything about my tonsils. The doctors here are terrible. Either way, I hope your surgery goes well. That's awful about sensitive teeth too. I have that problem as well, and mine also have holes in them. Take care!
Date: 8/29/2015 3:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    It's called Streptococcal pharyngitis over here in Australia, streptococcal tonsillitis, or streptococcal sore throat (known colloquially as strep throat) is a type of pharyngitis caused by a group A streptococcal infection. It affects the pharynx including the tonsils and possibly the larynx.I had Tonsilitis every time one of my kids got it and once they had them removed I stopped getting it...when the doc mentioned I might need mine removed, I thought yeah, pigs might fly!!! I wish you well and hope all turns out okay for you
Date: 8/29/2015 3:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 35438    Strep is a type of bacteria that actually causes a LOT of infections, all throughout the body, so it's not too surprising to have it in your tonsils! Hopefully your tonsillectomy goes well! I nearly had mine out when I was a little kid, before they determined that they were getting inflamed by my milk allergy.
Date: 8/30/2015 11:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 64723    I got strep for the first time right after my youngest was born. It was awful. I have asthma too, so they were giving me breathing treatments. They put some numbing agent in it the second time, and I reacted to it. My throat closed right up lol.

Date: 8/30/2015 5:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 998    If you have to have your tonsils out, then this might be such an easy (relative) treatment for these rounds of strep you have been going through.

When I was a kid, I remember the horrific time my dad had with strep throat. He lost jobs because of his sick time and he was in agonizing pain. He had his tonsils out decades before, so it wasn't due to that. The doctors finally just threw up their hands and said he needed to uproot his family and move to a dry hot climate. We all hated Phoenix, but it helped his strep.

Good luck to ya !!!

Date: 8/30/2015 7:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64819    Ginger I really hope the tonsillectomy cures my reoccurring strep. We're not leaving NC, I'll have to suffer through bouts of it.
I'm pretty nervous about it. SmoknJoe gave me his horror story. He said that I wouldn't be able to eat or drink for days because I'd be too sore, or he was anyway.
I'm thinking the won't be able to eat for days isn't that bad, I've really been wanting to lose weight, and if that is what it takes..... Lol
I should be getting the call from the ENT this week for my appt. Maybe I won't have to get them took out. Hey, a girl can hope. Right?
