Input about a Poem I wrote about Dixie`Psyguy

This Poem http://unsolvedmysteries.com/usm531904.html?t=Poetry, "Ghosts of Dixie" was written in 2010, and in my first poetry book, but now with the debate on the confederate flag, I wonder if I should ever add it to another book.

Like many Country Singers the Confederate Flag, the southern heritage, and Dixie has been a main part of the country/southern rock scene for ages, and Dixie has been used many times in songs.

Me personally I like the ghosts that are said to roam the battlefields, and through the woods. In Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers it's a Confederate Ghost that haunts the area.

So here is some of the poem:

I want to go down to the Southside Where the Confederate Soldiers still ride And raise the Dixie Flag with pride In the land where Robert E. Lee died For what he believed in

In the darkness in Shiloh You can hear their rally cry Of the young soldiers In the moonlight You can see the pride of Dixie in their eyes As they ready for their last ride

In the fall the ghosts of Dixie Come out to play Searching for new souls To bring down to the underworld The Devil’s fiddle shines in the moonlight As he plays his tunes for the lost confused kids They believe his lies that they sin and can’t seek redemption They accept to roam this world for eternity With the ghosts of Dixie

so what do you think of it? Just wondering if I should add it to my dark poetry book I am working on...

Certainly there has been a lot said about the recent thingy-ma-jig to do with the confederate flag. Those kind of knee jerk reactions last about a minute and a half in the large scheme of things. A few months from now people will get back to a more normal attitude and hopefully one of acceptance.

Your poetry and lyrics will be understood for the meanings you have in them. You have a reverence in understanding the past and what has come before us. If you were born in Alaska, you would be writing about the heroics of the Eskimo and indigenous people. Since you understand the South, you write about that. If you think it might bother anyone, you could include a small disclaimer or exclamation with this piece of writing. I think this poem says a great deal about who you are, and needs to be included in your works.

As for the flag debate - it's pathetic. I'm a born-and-bred Southerner, and down here, people are proud of our history, both the good and the bad. The South stood up to the federal government and has always carried it's own sense of old-work elegance...THAT is what the Southern Cross flag represents. We live in a nation of ninnies who wake up each day to find something to be offended by, don't let said ninnies hamper your own expression.
