What would you do?

USM, I am at a loss as to what to do. I have a dog, who was not mine to begin with, but I've been taking care of for over a year. She lives with me, I've tried to train her, I've done everything I know how. She is aggressive towards my cats and they've lived with her for their entire lives. I've taken two of them to the vet because of her attacks, one of them was put on antibiotics to help him heal. The other was attacked again and died. She runs after my neighbors barking. She has never bitten a human but she is aggressive towards any human who does not live in this house. She will climb on my lap and just hang out when I'm on the couch (she is 90lbs/41kg). She's a lovable dog towards me, but I'm afraid she might actually attack the neighbors some time. Each of my three neighbors have kids that either live there or grandkids that visit frequently ranging between 6 months and 6 years old. I don't want her to attack anyone much less one of the kids. She has a pen but she escapes all the time (I've reinforced it three times in the last month) she keeps finding a new way out. I've tried putting her on a tie-out for a few hours and she almost hung herself getting tangled up around a couple of fence posts. She was originally my brother's dog and I've tried to get him to take her back and he won't.

What would you do in my situation?

Date: 5/30/2015 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 63575    Hire a trainer... This dog needs a lot of attention not one you can just leave... You need to work on her constantly and you have to be firm but not harsh. A trainer would be best...
Date: 5/30/2015 7:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    Yes sounds like she needs some intense training and if that doesn't work, I'd surrender her as she does sound very aggressive and I wouldn't be taking the risk that she could really hurt someone and you get sued...just my take on it dear..

Date: 7/20/2015 3:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37843    Hey guys, thank you for your suggestions, I did find a trainer to work with the dog and it helped a lot with her human aggression. Unfortunately I came home from work one day to find she had killed another cat. I was looking to re home her and had not found anyone to take her yet and while I was at work last Monday she escaped from my mom's house in the pouring rain and was hit and killed by a car ;-(
