Teacher being weird and apparently trying to fail me; have to vent ~TGF

I'm a little stressed today about something. Trying to let it go and just move on so I can avoid being stressed but it still keeps popping into my head.

Anyway here's the deal. My teacher (who pretty much is the head of the photography department, or at least was but still acts like it) for one of my classes seems to all of a sudden want me to fail his class and lose my financial aid. I say that because, today, he changed the points on an assignment (the only one I haven't turned in yet!) from 40 to 100, then graded it! 0 out of 100. This dropped my score in the class from 77% (just 4% over the minimum required to keep one's financial aid) to a 55%! I'm very irritated because it seemed he did that on purpose. If he had graded it as a 0 out of 40, I would have understood and not thought a thing about it because I expected it and it would be only fair. But to change the score to the max points possible and THEN grade it??? To me that seems a little fishy; that can't be an accident or a coincidence. If it isn't, then I don't understand why because I can't think of anything I did to get him to dislike me enough to do it.

Fortunately, the last assignment we have (which from what I see is pretty much our final), a video project that is due next Tuesday, is *also* worth 100 points and if he is fair and grades me at least an 80 on that, I will be back up to over 73%, a high enough grade to keep my financial aid.

So I'd like your guys' advice. Do you think I'm being paranoid? Do you agree that it seems more than a coincidence? I want to go and talk to him about it but I'm not sure if it would piss him off and make it worse. He seems like he could be vindictive if he wanted to be. So I'm thinking it may be best just to let it go, unless he keeps doing it. anyway, any comments about it??

Date: 3/12/2015 9:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    Another weird thing is he asked me to submit it. I don't understand why because it's campus policy that you can only turn something in up to two weeks after it's due and after that you get a zero and you're out of luck, and it's been almost a *month* since it was due. So what's the point in submitting it?
Date: 3/13/2015 2:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    Hmmm does sound a bit off TGF, can you speak with someone higher up???
Date: 3/13/2015 5:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 64985    TGF...It does seem a bit odd that he asked for you to submit it so late, unless he was trying to prevent you from getting an "incomplete". I'd do what he says, be normal to him, and not make any waves at this point. Some teachers are vendictive and on a power trip, so you don't want to take that chance. I'd just tow the line for now and due your best, submit a great video, and shoot for the moon. Good luck my friend, I think things will work out...Corolator...
Date: 3/13/2015 4:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 22721    See if you can talk with him about your concerns. Sometimes a chat helps things on both ends.

But if he is being unethical, talk to the head of your school.

Date: 3/15/2015 6:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    For those that have suggested going to a higher up, I don't really want to mess with that. If I do that then they're going to talk to him, which is going to create HUGE awkwardness and friction between he and I. I am going to have him for 4 more quarters (IF i can stay in school!) so I don't want to chance getting him irked at me. Or even other people in the photo department. It may not bode well for me.... :\
Date: 3/15/2015 6:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    The annoying this is he hasn't done anything like this this quarter yet, or last quarter either. I'm wondering why now, at the end of the quarter, when grades are most important to me and i have the most stuff to do, would he have to do this.
Date: 3/15/2015 6:37:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    Nani: Yes my average would have been brought down but a bit less, if he'd left the points possible for the assignment at 40 (what it was when he assigned it to our class), instead of 100. Like I said, he change it from the assnt being worth 40 points (for anyone who were to do it) up to 100. So I am wondering why he didn't grade the stinkin thing before he changed the points, or even changed the points to begin with.
Date: 3/18/2015 2:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 11723    When he changed the weight/value of the grade, did he do it just for you or did he do this for every student across the board? If it is only for you, then it is VERY wrong. If I were you, I might wait to see how you do on this last assignment. If your grade is good enough, I would let it slide. If it is not, or he seems to be petty in the way he grades it, I would definitely go speak with a dean.
Date: 3/19/2015 10:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    Mydnite Son: he changed it for every student that will take his class in the future, as far as I can see. STILL, as I've said several times, it wasn't that he changed it; it was the fact that he changed it and then GRADED me on it. If he had graded me on the 20 maximum points it *had* been, it wouldn't have dropped my grade lower than it needs to be. Instead, it dropped it 22 percent!
Date: 3/19/2015 10:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    and btw, I figured out tonight that the last assignment would still leave me several percent below where I need to be to keep my financial aid, even if I got the full 100 points (which I'm sure I won't; the video wasn't good enough for that).
Date: 3/19/2015 10:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63962    SOOOO... I'm going to talk to him again, and hope that he is willing to either give me an extra credit assignment, or grade me on one of the two 100-pt assignments I never got in. If he doesn't, then I'm flat out of luck and can kiss my school career goodbye. Unless a move of God occurs. LOL
