This really isn't an issue of women's rights so much as it is the rights of minors. Since she is 17, she really has no say in what happens to her. When she turns 18, she can refuse treatment and doctors can't do anything about it, unless it's proven she's not mentally competent to make her own decisions.
Long story short, since she's only 17, then legally she doesn't have the right to refuse treatment, but ethically, I believe she should have that right because it's her body. |

Yeah, Moonsong has it right. The state can force her to accept treatment if they think that decision is in her best interest. There have been many cases about minors' rights being violated in this manner despite their logical refusal and parental support. Unfortunately, if the state/doctors think a minor can't make "correct" choices because of age, then they can and will force them. I think any minor who has reason and logic behind him/her should be able to make a well-informed choice, even if it could be "wrong" to others. But so many minors have made illogical choices to their detriment and that has probably ruined the choices for others. |

Sadly the law overrules people's rights in this field...my opinion is, yes she should be able to decide.. |

Why does it have to be chemotherapy ? There are other options . There are holistic doctors who have treated and cured people of cancer without chemo . The judges seem to always side with corporations and big pharma . I wish Cassandra the best . |

I don't see this as having anything to do specifically with a woman's right over her own body as would be say a discussion about abortion. This applies to people in general - all of us. Man, woman, and everything in excess or in between. I personally believe a person should be able to decide whether they receive medical treatment or not. In the case of the minor, I don't believe they should have a right to deny themselves medical care unless it is also supported by their parents the person in charge of their care. If, on the other hand, the child wanted to receive the medical care and the parent disagreed, I believe the state should be able to override the parents rights in this case. |

I had followed this case when it happened. I think it was absolutely an invasion of her body. Her mother supported her decision, and she's seventeen not seven. There is also a new mass in her lungs. |
