I'm not sure how many of you have heard of this case, but it deeply interested me when it first came to light a couple years back. Excuse any inaccuracies because I'm going solely off memory here.
In South Shields, England, there was a young couple with a new baby who were being harassed by a poltergeist beginning in the summer of 2006. Their ordeal transpired over the span of several months. It would slam doors, throw stuff, scratch people, leave threatening messages on their white board, and once, the family came home to find a stuffed animal with a knife in hand, holding it to the throat of another stuffed animal. There were also instances where the baby would disappear and they would find him stuffed away in a closet or elsewhere. Sometimes, the parents - especially the mother - would receive calls on their cell phones from the house phone when they knew no one else was home and they received threatening texts from numbers that did not exist. Even the toilets would sometimes run red with blood all of a sudden.
One evening, the parents were settling down for bed when suddenly the room was filled with their son's toys, levitating.
The mother received a text one day, obviously from the entity, expressing regret to all the torment it put them through and it decided to leave. A few minutes later, she gets another text, reading, "I was just kidding. I'm back now." This is debatable simply because of the dozens of articles I read about the case, only one mentioned this incident, but I thought I would include it nonetheless because it's just that creepy.
A group of paranormal investigators came to their house to see for themselves what was going on and they caught footage of a water bottle propped up on a table at an angle that completely defied logic, as well as tons more amazing evidence.
You're probably thinking this is too good to be true. Well, unfortunately, you're right. Although not officially stated, this case is agreed among many to be only a hoax. Even though the investigators claimed to have caught all this evidence, only a fraction of it was publically released; things that could easily be faked and was of low quality to boot. The water bottle, for example. People have proven it IS possible to make a water bottle stand on its own in the same skewed position.
It's a shame, really. I wanted this case to be real because it's just so creepy! At the same time, I'm glad it's not because I can't imagine having to go through something so terrifying.
There's also a book about the case penned by the investigators, titled "The South Shields Poltergeist: One Family's Fight Against an Invisible Intruder." I've been wanting to read it, even though I've heard from those who have read it that it's written in a manner that makes it a tedious read. I also heard that it contains conflicting evidence and includes things never previously mentioned that should have been.
