Every once in a while I’ll pop into USM and read the occasional post. I might have replied to a few over the years, I can’t recall exactly. I was surprised, however, to see that my last post was in 2009. Woah! Where did that time go?
It’s hard to know what to write. Many of you will be strangers to me and there will also be many, who like me, haven’t been here in a while and there’ll be some who have been here a long time and are still here. Hello if you recognise me!
A lot has happened in the last 5 years! My two sons are now both at their respective colleges. My youngest is hoping to get into Leeds Uni next year and eventually move to the US. He’s Head of Visual Effects on a YouTube channel whose owner lives in the US and the majority of her team are there.
My eldest goes to college three times a week and a day centre twice a week. I hope it won’t be much longer that we can employ a team of carers to look after him as we don’t want him to go into residential care. However, we do need to take a step back from caring ourselves as we’re not getting any younger ourselves and boy do I feel much older than I am! We seriously need a break before we’re in need of care ourselves! We moved house in July 2012 so we can do just that; our house and my son’s apartment are together so he’s just through the door to us so future carers aren’t encroaching on our personal space.
I have a part time job in the school my eldest attended during his first year here. Also, since I’ve been here, I’ve rediscovered knitting which Mum taught me when I was a child. She tried to teach me crochet but I just didn’t get it. However, since being here and rediscovering knitting, I was looking at the many tutorials on YouTube, learning new stitches and techniques, when I would come across the occasional crochet tutorial. I became curious so I bought myself some hooks and began learning. That was two years ago and I absolutely love it!
