Are you like me; a fair-skinned lass who can never find the right foundation? Are you so light that the lightest shade of most drugstore foundations are still way too dark for you? Does the high price of foundations made for pale skin make your wallet sob? Well, in today's review, I bring you an item that you and your wallet will both love!
I've been waiting eagerly for this product to arrive because I've heard great things about it. Does it live up to expectations? Read on~
A lot of people know Manic Panic by its hair dye, but I'm rather surprised not many know of its cosmetics line. This product comes from Manic Panic and is available in four different shades: three normal skin tones and then there's the pure white Virgin, which can either be added to another foundation to lighten it or you can apply it directly to your skin.
Now, I understand looking at it, you would never think to do the latter unless it was Halloween. If you'd rather add it to your foundation, that's fine, but hear me out. I took the plunge and applied it to half my face for comparison.
Let me just first tell you about my skin. It's dry/oily combo and my nose is a tricky area because it can get oily while at the same time being patchy as if dry. It is a NIGHTMARE applying foundation there because it settles in the side creases where my nose meets my face and the foundation emphasizes the patchiness of my nose. Even when I exfoliate and moisturize to the point that there are no visible patches, once I apply foundation, BOOM! Patches. The ample amount of peach fuzz I have on my face doesn't help there, either. Furthermore, I have this weird kind of undertone. Warm undertones are too pink for me, cool too yellow, and neutral too orange. On top of that, my face is seven different colors, but mostly pink. As you can guess, finding the right foundation for me is like trying to swat a fly in a dark room while blindfolded.
Now back to the product. Like the name implies, it blends like a dream. Once blended, you'll see it doesn't make you paper white, but rather makes you lighter. This stuff has amazing coverage. I normally use L'Oreal True Match and I need to apply several layers to cover up the red in my face and even out my complexion, only to end up with a gross, cakey, orange mess that's darker than my body and still have those red patches showing. I only used one thin layer and I swear, it was a world of difference. The side I applied it on was like smooth porcelain compared to the bare side, which was very pink and blemished with freckles and a few pimples.
It's so light, it doesn't even feel like I'm wearing make up. Might be because I only had to use a thin layer to get the desired effect. I can touch my face and it won't smear, which is great because I have a tendency to rest my face in my hands a lot.
I've read a lot of reviews where people claim this stuff settled in their pores, making it look like they had little white spots on their face. I myself have trouble with my pores, but I didn't have that issue and I didn't even use a primer.
This foundation is vegan and not tested on animals. Only celebrities, as the tagline says. ;p One of the ingredients listed is jojoba oil, which if you've read my post about ear stretching, you'll know is very, very good for your skin.
While this may be off-putting to some people, the product smells like Halloween face paint. I mean, if you take off the cap and smell it. Once you've applied it, it's not going to make you smell like face paint. I actually quite like the smell because Halloween is my favorite holiday, so it's like a little piece of Halloween I can wear everyday. :)
And speaking of Halloween, I LOVE the little bats on the bottle. So cute~
At $11 for an ounce of product, that's a steal. You don't need much to get the desired effect, whether you're applying it straight or mixing it with your foundation, so it's going to last you a while. However, if you plan on buying it to use for Halloween to get a pure white face, don't. You'll need a LOT of product to achieve that and you'll only have a cakey white mess on your face in the end. Manic Panic does sell a creme foundation called Goth White that you can use to paint your face. I myself haven't tried it, but I've heard good things about it and I may test it out in the future to confirm the claims.
Overall, I am highly satisfied with this product and it will become a permanent staple in my makeup routine.
