Something has been happening at my work for years.Many times when one of our residents or more often a group of residents are about to pass, residents and staff see something. This thing is said to look like a small dog or thin rat. So many residents have seen it dating back almost 20 years if not longer. The first I heard of the ratwasway back in 1996 when Ella kept telling staff members that a dog like a thin rat was in her closet. Her closet was searched for signs of rodent problems. Nothing was found no feces nothing chewed no sign of anything. But within a week 4 residents passed away. 2 expected 2 not expected. I heard of more sightings as the years went on The next most memorable was in 98 when Laura swore that there was a rat in her bed. Once again nothing showed up. We have been fortunate to have never had a rodent problem and there has never been a sign of rats in the building. Soon after she saw the rat Laura passed away sudden. In 2003 Gerri was telling someone or something to get away from the Tv when asked who are you talking to she said the rat in front of the TV. Again we lost several residents in a short time. The next sighting I can really recall was about 4 years ago Lillian was sure there was a rat on her dresser.Same old search same results no animal rat or trace of to be found. More recently a nurse was talking with a family member of a resident who had just passed away and she said she saw a rat run behind the resident's boxed up belongings.
I have always thought the sightings are too far apart and have gone on too long to be a real rat. I thought maybe it was just the brain picking up on death in the form of a rat. Until 3 weeks ago I finally saw the rat for myself. It looked more like a shadow ground hog than a rat to me. Fat squat low to the floor body no tail. Not really a natural animal more like a 3D shadow of an animal black in color and just smooth no hair no tail just a shadow creature.We have lost 4 residents since I saw this, including by close high school friends Mom.
Just wanted to share this odd happening with USM. So many strange things in this world.So many will never be understood
