~**Doggie Tales ....... in an arctic blast Bluegrass Style**~
Well, well, Angels
I could have submitted this in the "Discussions, Questions category" But, I saw the Pets category & thought it would be a perfect fit. :)
It's been a little while..... Every one doing great!?.......hoping every one's Christmas was very nice & your New Year is off to a great start.
Wow, every one is talking about this extremely freezing arctic-like cold weather the entire nation seems to be having!! Every One staying warm & cozy, I hope...... As for me; It's any wonder...my oh my goodness!! it's been so cold here in Kentucky...bone-chilling cold let me say!! But on a happier note; My middle brother came home for Christmas & The New Year then left Sunday, I miss him so much already!..........It was such a special time having him Home.
After my brother left, I heard that the temps were going to drop below zero with the wind chill factor dangerously colder....so, I stopped at a grocery store, picking up a few “must haves” When I returned to the cabin, with the colder weather coming.....I needed to protect my dogs, so with that in mind, I dressed in thermals & an extra couple layers of clothing including a heavy quilted field coat, heavy boots a toboggan & wool scarf. Feeling like one of those mideval knights or armor bearers! lol....
I didn't have too much trouble getting one of the ATV's started up....but boy did I have an ordeal loading up the straw on the back of it... But, finally was able to get it loaded but not before I yelled out...”There's more than one way to skin a Buffalo!!” Considering the fact, “a cat wouldn't have been big enough for this job!” lol ;) :) I'm still not sure what good yelling that out loud accomplished but it made me feel better at the time!! lol!
So, I finished loading the straw in all my dog's houses last evening . While trying to get all this accomplished., Sam; my foxhound cried & cried wanting outside.....so I let him out. He's been inside since his surgery & his stitches aren't out yet, it's been so cold, letting him outside now is out of the question.
But, after he made his rounds......out at the point, there's another place here on the farm which is actually one out of my two favorite places here but I've not nicknamed the area yet .... though I think Sam doesn't hunt there a great deal, instead he went around down by the pond, then, back at the cabin, then checking on lil' girl & my other 2 girls...then, back to Tobie Mouse.
While I was finishing my German shepherd's house, she kept giving me, **thank you kisses** & my face was so cold, I could barely feel them. She's so intelligent & kept crying, whining when she snuggled near me...Wow! Brrrr! It's definitely cold! It's been so cold ice forms on the windows, doors & even the interior doors are extremely cold.
After I finished her house & was putting straw in The Mouse's house..here came Sam running up to me nearly knocking me down.....I bent down to put the straw inside & while I was busy putting it inside Tobie's house, when Sam started digging it out........I yelled, “What in the world, are you doing, Sam!!?” lol! I kept putting it back & he kept digging it out....I turn halfway around looking at him & notice for the first time, he's shivering....standing there quivering....shaking!!..... reminding me of the Tinman from The Wizard of Oz!!If I hadn't been so cold I believe I would have fell over laughing....it was so hilarious....it was like a cartoon!! lol He was so cold he was actually trying to get into Tobie's house....he had decided he was gonna make a “new” door! Lol
You'd just have to see this......Tobie is part Terrier, so the doghouse was built specifically for him,.....while the door, it's small so large dogs cannot get inside....so Sambo was a' fixing” to get himself in a whole lot of trouble! Getting that head of his stuck inside Mouse's house!!**haha** But needless to say....I started walking back toward the cabin & he followed me, I opened the door & he ran inside. Lol
That left me out in the cold, still! So, I finished up with Tobie's house, fed him & drove the ATV to the building.,I surely didn't bother to unload what was left of the straw........it was so cold the gears wouldn't go in reverse, I normally back the ATV's inside the building but not yesterday evening!.....I drove it inside, shutting it off..
By the time, I walked onto the porch of the cabin while the wooden boards creaked beneath my footsteps.....I felt like the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer!! lol!
Back inside....& out of the snow-covered clothing....I sat down in front of the stove & got warm. Sheesh!......What an evening! I put enough straw in the fur babies houses to last for quite a while & enough food to last for 3 days. But decided, if the temps dropped any more, they were definitely coming inside. So, .....today, I made a pot of Chili & have went outside to check on my darlings.....it's not as cold tonight as it was last night, but let me say, it's still cold!! Now, I think I'm ready for my pillow & a good book..... I've been so tired, getting prepared for this cold weather....now, maybe I can relax just a little. It's great seeing a lot of the long-time members returning. Have a great evening, Angels.........where ever You are
Night, Sweet dreams
God bless
Blue~
