'People who don't believe in ghosts are scared'

For the past four years, two Berliners have been combing castles and cellars touched by the paranormal. We joined the city’s ghost hunters on a night time expedition.

“Last time we were here we picked up a lot of readings,” said Gerhold. “I saw a boy with a shaved head, and we recorded voices,” she added. There were lights on in the flats above, but none of the building's residents had been made privy to the investigation.

The landlord, a burly middle-aged man, said: “I feel like something is watching me when I'm down there.” He brought this up with the owner of the house. She grew up in one of the flats, and inherited the building after her father died. A well-to-do Berlin family, she asked not to be named.

“As a child I would always see other children down in the cellar who asked me to play. But I know now there were no other children,” she said, adding that she remembers her father digging up the courtyard to find vestiges of SS army uniforms, and crosses. “Maybe it was a grave,” she said. Before her father bought the house, it had been owned for a long time by a Jewish family.

Date: 11/27/2013 11:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 67114    Piece of advice from someone who has been dealing with "things" that now a days are called "paranormal",while back in the 50s, we kids just called them "ghosts". How accurate we were is to be debated but every town in the South, that I knew of back then, had 1 old house, that the locals considered "haunted" and NO ONE went into them and especially no one went into the cemetery after the sun went down, if you were smart or "insane", the community would be the judge of such behavior. Even back then, I was thought of as "just a little "odd', not because I made all As in school but was doing things that today would qualify me to be on GHs or any other "paranormal" tv show. I was interested in "old abandoned buildings, houses, cemeteries,", fortune tellers, "quacks though they might be", and being an "artist, I painted what I "saw", felt", "heard", lot of it imagination, some, however, were based on "reality". Supposedly, I got it from my father's side of the family, pure Scottish, and it skipped every other generation. No one told me what it" was but I "felt" different at times, like "All Hallows Eve", "Mid Summers-Eve Day", all of the ancient "fire celebrations", so I took the chance, I went off to a large university, thanks to an older friend driving, and had the time,a chance to really look things up. I recall that what I read, made the long drive back home, quite uncomfortable and I can still recall it as if it was yesterday.FYI, I have a habit of being totally honest on here, as I have no one to impress and share with others what I hope they might enjoy reading/hearing from me. I make no excuses, if what one chooses to believe it is theirs and theirs alone to decide if what I pass on is reality or my interpretation of it.
