Facebook friend scam?

I got friended last week by someone I thought I might know.  He looked like he was in the military and I just automatically friended him.  He left me a message thanking me and i asked him if I knew him and if he was in the military.  He said he did not know me and yes, he's supposedly in the navy stationed in Afghanastan, he also asked me if I was married.  I said yes, I've been married for 25 years and that was the end of the conversation.

I looked at his facebook page and have noticed that he has exactly 14 friends, all but one are middle aged females.   They're from all over the place and none are his family members as far as I can tell.  Basically his page is filled with just navy stuff.  Suposedly he was a navy seal or else he worked training navy seals, that was unclear.

Probably the smart thing to do is to unfriend him, but I'm kind of intrigued.  I wonder if he's one of those guys that friends woman, gives them a story about being in the military and will suddenly need money???

What do you think??  I can't figure out why he friended me in the first place or how he stumbled across me, he didn't answer that when I asked.  I'm just really curious about what he'll do next.  Should I unload him??

Date: 6/4/2013 11:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 3263    I'd ask him why the reference was gone!
Date: 6/4/2013 11:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 53427    I got these strange men friending me like crazy when I was requesting teammates for a facebook game I used to play Criminal Case. Then they'd send the messages, and ask if I was married. I started off being polite, and telling them yes I was married. And that was usually the end of it. Come to find out, most of these guys were trolling facebook game pages looking for women to friend, because they didn't even play the game. I got to where I ignored them, and defriended them at once. I think this guy is a fake, but I'm not much of a trusting person lol.
Date: 6/4/2013 11:55:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Dark Crow, I would, but I'm afraid that would tip him off. I think I want to watch him a little longer to see what happens.
Date: 6/4/2013 11:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Snookums, I don't play any facebook games. I noticed the only game he plays is Criminal Case!
Date: 6/4/2013 12:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 66331    This is why I only friend people I know really well lol I wont friend someone I dont know, its up to you, if he doesn't bother you then just leave it, if he starts to annoy you unfriend him and block him Maybe he plays facebook games.....always nice to have a few extra friends for those
Date: 6/4/2013 12:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 66331    oh you dont play facebook games lol oh well
Date: 6/4/2013 1:35:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Haven, I don't want to leave it alone in case he is scamming other woman. Plus, it annoys me tremendously to think someone is impersonating a soldier or sailor in this case.
Date: 6/4/2013 2:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 66331    You could always report him to facebook, I know there is a way to do that
Date: 6/4/2013 2:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 63449    This is why I have my privacy settings the way I do - people have to be friends with one of my friends before they can even search for me. Too many creepers out there!
Date: 6/4/2013 3:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I get a lot of friend requests but they are generally from other mutual friends...now the ones who only have one or two friends and I don't know them, I do not accept the request..I've just got through unfollowing 34 peoples names who show on my timeline..I don't know any of them..I only have one guy who is in the forces from the USA.
Date: 6/4/2013 5:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 998    If I were you, I would watch to see his game plan. It seems just too obvious that he will make his play soon. Then you can blow up his Facebook page and let all the other women know the game he is playing.
Date: 6/4/2013 7:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    ...if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...
Date: 6/4/2013 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 26227    That's happened to me too but it was a women. I didn't friend them. I usually ask them "do I know you?" I guess it don't hurt to wait and see what happens.... which reminds me I need to "catfish" someone now!

Date: 6/4/2013 9:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 64765    I'd say be really careful, you just don't know with people these days.
Date: 6/6/2013 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 66778    Hey Kelly, it's rather weird he didn't give you an answer as to why he added you in the first place and that he fell silent after you told him about your marriage as well as the sudden change of profile. I generally don't add people who don't look familiar, especially if there isn't any personal message included. Can seriously be he is just out for some flirty ladies, but is best to be careful there. ~ Live Each Day
Date: 6/6/2013 1:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    I have been watching and I will be more careful from now on about who I friend. I had told him my husband was retired military and wonder if that has something to do with the changes he made. Or maybe he is legit! LOL
Date: 6/6/2013 1:12:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Oh, and he's added four more lady friends.
Date: 6/7/2013 6:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 66778    That's definitely weird he removed it all of a sudden. Maybe he was worried that you or your husband might notice irregularities within what he is saying. While it's a huge advantage to talk to people online without giving too much away from yourself and your life, it's difficult all the same if you don't know who you are truly talking to. After all they can tell you whatever they like to leave a good reputation. Pity you can't find out right away who is the right contact for you and who isn't. ~ Live Each Day
Date: 6/9/2013 6:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 46486    I only accept people I know. So if I was you I would've deleted him.
Date: 6/9/2013 10:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    He isn't too worried that you are on to him, otherwise he'd delete you...I don't accept friend requests from people I don't know. I'll send a message asking how they know me....Having said that, I'm with you...very curious about what he is up to...sounds like a scammer...you might be able to out him...although I'd be careful...These guys can be dangerous...
Date: 6/15/2013 5:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 63121    Maybe he's creepy, lol.
