In fact, President Obama is wasting billions of our dollars investing in green technology. Maybe someday down the line the technology will be there, but for now we're just lining the pockets of democrat cronies. |

Alternators have only two componets in them. A voltage regulator which limits the voltage coming out regardless of the motor RPM, and a rectifier assembly which changes the alternators output from AC voltage to DC voltage. If the regulator senses the voltage dips below 10 volts it will shutoff all together to prevent it from overheating, to protect the coils and the rectifiers from low voltage strain. Remove the rectifier and the output of the alternator will be wildly erratic with voltages go up and down with speed of your motor. That could be from 5 volts to 200 volts. This will make the motor drink gas more due to the stronger magnetism as the RPMs try to go up. The regulator limits the output voltage so it doesnt fry the car battery, doesnt fry electronic equipment inside the car. Provides safe power levels to charge your cell phone. Would you plug your phone into a 220 volt or a welding plug to charge it or even talk on it at the same time?? Think of the high electricity running one inch from your ear and head!! The rectifiers are a band of six diodes that smooth out electricty and limit the flow to one direction only. In other words they change the output from Alternating Current to Direct Current. They basically whip electricty into shape and make it easier to use. Not safer but easier. If you remove the battery cable from the + side of your battery with the car running the motor will stay running. A good alternator will power the lights with the battery disconnected. If the alternator is bad the car will die as soon as the cable is removed. When the motor is off the alternator cannot turn by itself so the regulator stops the flow of electricty to the exciter coils. this prevents your battery from being drained and you having to sit outside in a parking lot holding jumper cables praying for a jumpstart. Also without a way for the alternator to turn it would overheat cause there is no airflow from its small fanblades to cool the inner workings and bearings off. The electric cars are out there but the technology is expensive on them. The ranges and speeds and also the amount of weight they can haul is very limited. Batteries weigh a lot (60 pounds and on up) and a golfcart has 6 at least. I have seen a few golf carts with solar panel roofs on them so they charge while they ride or sit. I hope this hasnt offended you in anyway but that it has been more informative for you and the other readers. Have a great day! |
