Me and SmoknJoe's Adventure in Car Shopping

It was like this, the price we were quoted to start with was $8900, with a mileage of 89k for an 02 Honda Odyssey. I talked him down to $7300 (That was $5200 trade in and $2100 cash). 30 min later SmoknJoe gets a call, the salesman said that we couldn't get $5200 on our trade in, and total cost of the vehicle would be $16k. SmoknJoe said, "I don't think I'm hearing you right, talk to the old lady." I get the phone he said, "We can do $5200 on the trade in, and total cost will be $14.3k", I flipped out on him. We checked the Kelly Blue Book value of that van before we left home, in the best condition, it is only $8500, and I told him I refused to pay double that amount. Oh, and the kicker, he said that the mileage wasn't 89k that "someone" must have looked at the wrong vehicle (after TWO people confirmed the mileage was 89k) cause the mileage on it was 116k. Who in their right mind is gonna pay $14k for an 11 year old minivan that has 116k miles on it?

...I own a big torch-bearing statue in New York that I'll let go for $8,900.00
Would probably make a nice winter retreat or snack bar.

...I feel bad that you would feed SmoknJoe Alpo and Twin Pet.
I could send him a steak but you would probably confiscate it and eat it yourself.
Bad Adora! Bad!

You know those car salesmen are starving, I bet after we walked away (before the call) the salesman was saying to himself "No dog food for me tonight."

...I forgot to mention...I have this LOW LOW mileage, ONE OWNER '96 Odyssey that I can part with for $3,200.99.

Get the makeup stains out and I'll give you 1700 for it :P

Date: 4/22/2013 9:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64819    But in all seriousness, if the dealer doesn't come off the 14k, I'm going to write a nasty review on their google review, and any other site I can leave a review.
I looked at the BBB site, and from a score from A+ to F, guess what, they have an F.

...looks like you found a crooked lot. No '02 Honda van is worth the price they're asking.
Even the original $8,900 sounds a bit pricey.

I miss the days when $400 would get you a car that was fairly roadworthy.

Date: 4/23/2013 6:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 64614    Hmmm....Take a look at what Motor Trend says about this... http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2002/honda/odyssey/pricing/
Seriously, the guy tried to sell you a minivan that's over 11 years old with 116k miles on it for 14k? I'd just hand the guy a screw and a ball....Let him figure out the rest.

Date: 4/23/2013 4:39:00 PM  ( Admin-FA )   This is a wonderful reason why I hate car shopping.. it's always a long processed game to the dealership.
Date: 4/23/2013 9:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    Where on earth did you find this van? I hope it wasn't a dealership? Jeez..
Date: 4/23/2013 10:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64819    It was a dealership called Lumberton Kia.
Date: 4/24/2013 6:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    The cash for clunkers thing made the costs of used cars rise tremendously. It's ridiculous all the perfectly good used cars that were taken off the streets and sent to the junkyard. That's part of the reason why used cars are so expensive.
Date: 4/24/2013 7:28:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64819    I can understand that Kelly, but the fact remains, that I'm not paying double what the Kelly Blue Book value says I should buy from a dealer.
