Would it embarrass her? I remember back a few years ago, a coworker of mine was about to have her house foreclosed on. We took up a collection, and her house was saved. Not sure if it was our money that did it. But I think it really embarrassed my coworker, and I wondered if we ever should have done it. These things are kind of iffy. Maybe you should ask her if it would be okay if you tried to do this. |

I think it's a fantastic idea, but I'd ask her first. |

I think it is a great idea to be honest, but I'm just not sure anyone would chip in on it |

You definitely have to ask your friend before you speak on her behalf. Maybe find out from her also, how many of those 428 friends on Facebook are good enough 'friends' to care about her.
A second thought is, what if you only collect a couple of hundred dollars, and then those people who donate will wonder when her trip is. If not enough money is collected, then will you have to return it if the trip is not scheduled? |

Snookums, that's a good point. My experience with other German friends made me realized they're very private people. |

Ginger, that's a good point to! What if I didn't get enough money? Hmmm, maybe my initial instinct wasn't such a good one. Still, I would love to send her someway. |

When I took my LNA class my teacher is from England. She wanted to go back so badly for a visit but her being in her 70's she really didn't/doesn't have enough cash to do so. What everyone in our class did was pooled our money together and she had JUST enough to go to England. We gave it to her in a card so she could read it when she got home. She e-mailed us all thanking us up & down, and how she would love to go and she's so excited. However, she never went. She used the money to build a screened in porch. It was something her and her husband has always wanted at their house.
I guess it depends on who the person is though and how they look at this... =) |
