AO, thankfully at least, the Government seems to be taking this seriously. We have missile defenses on the East coast and deployed some to South Korea. I'm not sure what a real war with The NoRks would be like. They have dated technology, but their entire country is layered with overlapping radar, even if we tried to fly under it, they have some pretty good mobile radar and air to ground missiles...not to mention the pure brain washing the people are subjected to. I don't know if they worship Kim Jung Un as much as his father...but like the Japanese idolized Emperor Hirohito and would do anything for him, you wonder if the norks would do the same. |

To be honest I think we need to bomb them now. They been playing these games far too long. Plus the citizens of North Korea should not be under harsh rule in this century. |

China is stepping in, they dont want a war so close, they are trying to stop it because if they nuke us and we nuke back its bad for china. So I guess china is trying to stop it from happening at least that is what my husband said, he read a article on yahoo about it. |

PsyGuy, It is sad to say, but in South Koreas view, it isn't in their best interest to have a suddenly free North. They would have millions of very backwards people on their hands. Germany had a very tough, very expensive time integrating the East Germans back with them and there were far fewer of them. I can't imagine what it would be like for North and South to integrate. |

I think you're right about China trying to bring them under control, but China has been playing this game for a long time, pulling the strings on North Korea, letting them play their game to stick it to the West. How much do they really know about the new leader? How much control do they really have? That's what makes me nervous. |

Well, if Ft.Bragg was bombed my area would be affected bt fallout, and most of us would prolly be dead. If it happened elsewhere in the country, being from.the country, I think we'd survive. SmoknJoe does alot of gardening and canning, we also do quote a bit of fishing, and Joe and his brothers know how to junt. He has a couple ponds near his house, and I don't think it would be too hard to filter the water. |

Adora, probably the fallout would kill more people then the actual bomb. That and panic and general disruption of services we depend on. They say it's relatively easy to avoid the fallout. You go to the lowest room in your house and seal it with duct tape and hunker down till it blows over. That's where the supplies come in handy. |

I am on record on this site (somewhere!) years ago stating that I felt N. Korea to be the most likely nation to officially attack the U.S. Don't get me started on all the "non-official" attacks I feel we are continuously under . . .

I am a little worried something is going to happen, I've been making a list of supplies that I need to pick up, and tomorrow I'll actually have time to. Like you I live in Indiana and usually when I'm prepared for something it is much less likely for it to happen, so don't worry USM Kelly and I will keep this from happening simply by being prepared haha? |

I have friend in Japan, and they are all very worried. I am more worried for them than I am for myself.
The conventional wisdom is that the new Kim in power is a young hothead who wants to show how tough he is. That is why he is blustering and making a lot of international noise. I think that is most likely. The funny thing is that North Kore'as usual allies in Russia and China now have more to lose. They're not hard-line communists anymore, and they see N.K. as a holdover of the Bad Old Days, which they are. |

Arion, I wonder if a lot of what he's doing is for show, to gain respect from the military since he is so young. I'm not even sure NK even qualifies as a communist regime any longer...maybe more of a rightwing Dictatorship lead by strongmen. They have to be the oddest country in world history. No wonder China and Russia seem to have has lost control. |

n.korea, and iran could be good allies for the u.s if u.s and those 2 would stop hating eachother.japan, and u.s used to be enimes but years later became close allies.i think south korea dont trust n.korea, and probabbly think n. korea becomming free is a trap or something. i think u.s makes more enimes than friends these days. but, it may just be because of propaganda, and fear. i'm not into politics but, i believe these days the government cares more about money, and fame than making peace. i've heard scare tactics like n.korea attacking before. i doubt they will. they're all talk/threats. but, i do hope they become a free peaceful country. |

KT, true that most of their missiles are short range scuds, but they did successfully launch a satellite into space. While many believe they still don't have the technology to shrink an atomic bomb down to fit on a missile, they could still drop one on the south. Its estimated they have enough material for ten bombs. There is also the possibility that their threats could accidentally set off a war. So many known knowns, and known unknowns in this situation. |

Of course I get worried, but I am in a location that I think if a nuclear bomb landed in NYC (I am an hour north) I wouldn't have many options. There is also a nuclear plant 30 minutes from where I live on the Hudson River, so I am not very confident about my location for this situation. But, that doesn't mean I would give up without a fight, lol. We have talked about stashing water and some food and medical supplies just in case and I don't think it is such a bad idea. Let's hope nothing like this ever happens. |
