...Why I should love God and Jesus ?

Good morning fellow USMers!

I hope you all won't begrudge me your time wasted if I start by laying down a bit of background.

Never an ardent believer in the church or it's tenets, I find myself, as I grow older,
pondering over my path through life and wonder if I have taken the correct route.

Hardly a day passes by without me considering whether or not I might have been happier,
smarter, more tolerant of a fine Scotch whiskey or possibly be driving an expensive Italian sports car,
had I given myself to the church at a much younger age.

Now, that being said, I let my mind roam down another branch in the road and begin to
question myself about the fate of those souls living prior to the advent of Christianity and
the belief in one true and universal God.

As of late, I have been doing a little bit of dabbling about with a genealogical record of my family.
my roots and origin - the Hekler family tree.
I never did get back much further than the late 1700's but I have to believe that my ancestors
weren't just dropped out of a cloud by aliens to begin procreating in an effort to eventually bring me into being.

The line has to go back to a much more distant past.

Now, presupposing that I'm NOT extraterrestrial jetsam, I still deeply query as to where I have come from.
Does my genetic makeup (not Maybelline) go back to the first man and woman - Adam and Eve?
Is this not what the Bible would have us all believe?

At this point, I would heartily welcome anyone with a good biblical knowledge to intervene
and set me straight on any misconceptions I may have as my only dalliance with those writings
extends to waiting in the dentist's reception area when I was only about seven years old and
the only thing remotely interesting in that waiting room at that time was a set of volumes of
"The Illustrated Children's Bible", which, aside from pictures of sundry sinners being smitten,
held my attention about as well as the Glamour and Good Housekeeping magazines commonly found
in the haircutting salons of the world or the Martha Stewart Living offerings kindly set out by my probation officer.

My point being; I just don't know a heck of a lot about God and his rule book.

Okay then, where was I going with this???

...right...So, if my heritage goes back to the beginning of man and womankind and, I really don't have a clue as to
how long ago in the past that was, considering that Christianity and it's mission to turn us all into believers,
whether by kind word or torture and death, ostensibly began around the year 6 BC if I am to trust Wikipedia.

Now, here is my main question:

If Christianity didn't really get kick-started until that late a date and if we are to hold as true
that non-believers burn in the fiery pits of Hell as many have often told me was to be my fate,
where does that leave all those people that were alive and floating around more than 2,200 years ago?
Are they in Hell or did God create some kind of "Grace Area" somewhere in the middle?

I don't know if there is still a chance that I might get past those pearly gates and find myself welcomed into Heaven.
I've done a lot of different things in my time but none of them involved playing a musical instrument.
I have always liked the sound of a harp and I'm kind of thinking that I'd like to give it a go.

Granted, a trip the alternative destination would have some interesting aspects to it as well if the total
of pre-Christian humanity is to be found in that sulphurous domain.
Just imagine if you will, the ability to scout out the ancient Egyptians in an effort to appease your curiosity
regarding the building of the pyramids, maybe track down some Druids and ask what Stonehenge was all about
or even, if you're really lucky, get the lowdown on Atlantis from Plato himself. WOW!

Apart from the oppressive heat which I would not care for too much at all, there is much to be said for an excursion
to that place although one significant drawback would be the stench of Dubya and Cheney's carcasses roasting.
That would probably be enough of a deterrent to make folks want to be elsewhere.

In ending this wandering musing, I would like to thank you all for reading and sincerely state
that this posting was not intended to be a mockery of any sort.

...Hi Kasti!
Thanks for replying. I'll look into some of those sources you mentioned to see what they're all about but I read Erich von Däniken many years ago and it was compelling at the time but have since found out that a great deal of his "evidence" was likely manufactured by himself and numerous informational sources either failed to ever exist.
You have to take this stuff with a grain of skepticism and do a ton of research.
With cases like the Dropa stones (von Daniken) or the Ica stonesm you'll find much discourse as to whether they might be real or fake.

I guess that may be where belief has to come in and faith keeps the belief alive.

Date: 3/23/2013 1:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 31531    I agree with you that is why I said I needed to go over these books again..I like to sort them out. Some of the things he has written about other authors have also.We have been lied to my our government and religious leaders, so when we are confronted with the truth we find it hard to believe so yes we need to keep faith. This can be a very deep subject.Research is a must. Thanks for reading my reply.I like to keep a open mind.

Date: 3/29/2013 4:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    Very interesting post
I have thought about a lot of these same things and your post reminds me of my boyfriend- while he 'believes' he questions even more what I say and believe, which leads to some interesting conversations, debates, and sometimes even arguments...
I am fascinated with all religions and have studied a lot of different beliefs. I truly believe there is a unifying force that connects us all. The Rig Veda (Hinduism) says that "truth is one, sages call it by many names" and I believe this 100%. Perhaps our road to truth is only the difference. I believe that compassion and love are universal ties and these are all things people of all kinds can connect to and relate to and have faith in.
As for Biblical views- Judaism is an old religion. It dates back very far in human history and there are references in the old testament about 'the messiah' which Christians and Catholics believe today to be Jesus Christ. In revelations, the Bible says it will judge everyone before the end, including I believe the time before and after Jesus. It is written the only way to heaven is through faith, and faith in Jesus. What is interesting is that Jesus comes to us with a new commandment- to love one another as I (God) has loved you. Our second chance, through love. Again, a universal theme.
Now, I have not read the entire Bible or believe I know everything- I know very little, but I do know from my own experience that love endures death- even if that only means those we love carry our memories and legacy on, or if that means somewhere we will all meet again through these bonds. I have had a NDE and do believe in the afterlife- but perhaps that is just my road to truth.
So for your question, I do not think the people before Christ go to hell, I think our energy returns to God in the very end. If we as humans can have compassion, I would hope the creator would have endless compassion and unconditional love.
Hope some of that makes sense

Date: 12/20/2013 1:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 15694    I don't claim to be a religious genius but I do dabble into the Bible a little bit. Maybe I can shed some light on this subject for you. In the beginning...okay maybe not that far...God intended mankind to live in paradise...on earth. God wants an earth full of people to love him. God created a perfect couple to subdue the earth and to fill it with people to obey and love HIM! Adam and Eve blew it and their disobedience brought death to all mankind. Accordingly, when you die you do go to hell, but not the firey torment we were taught...Hell,grave and sheol represent the same thing, a place for your soul to be secluded away until resurrection day. Once you are dead that is it until God calls you for judgement. Fast forward a bit. Jesus made a pact with his disciples and 12,000 of their seed to rule as kings and priests with him. And they will reign over the earth, as God wanted in the first place, and all the people. I have found that what I have been taught from childhood and what the Bible teaches are day-and-night difference. Revelations indicates that Christ returns to do battle with all the kingdoms of mankind..that includes the Army,Navy,Air force and the Marines...I don't know about you but I don't think I want to fight Christ because we;re not going to win!
Date: 4/26/2014 11:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 62602    I agree. god/jesus should be themselves not demand worship. I've learned here that NOONE likes being told what to do, and yet they're okay with a god/goddess telling them what to do/believe. um, no, sorry I'm not THAT gullible anymore. if ANY god/goddess wants my respect they need to work for it. I'm done with religious figures. I treat them as if they are human, and that's it. not everyone is going to like them, and if we have to learn that rude truth so do they.
Date: 3/11/2023 2:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 64942    Gods love is universal. He loves all people and desires all people to experience paradise and heaven after this life. How we get there is by treating others with love and kindness, asking for help along the way of life and the door is through having faith that Christ will guide you through this life.
Date: 12/5/2024 12:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 67866    You shouldn't its all a government ploy to make you submit to the simulation.
