H.L. Mencken, in my opinion, is describing "those that would be gods" in their own minds. What I think they are not aware of in their minds is that to 'be like' God means, is to live in the truth. Those that lie about themselves are only fooling themselves. Those that engage in institutional lying think the rest of us are fools. I just know that you can't fool God. God Bless. |

Perhaps just a "coincidence" that I posted this around election time (had tried to post it earlier but no luck). Anyway, KT, the old saying "Ignorance is bliss" makes sense here. People who believe the lies are living in ignorance, and if living in such "great happiness" means for them to not have to think on their own about what is going on in our country, then they have more time to not have to think, period.
