The Many Gemini Plots in Cinema

I had watched the movie "The Prisoner of Zenda" the 1952 version with Stewart Gardner. I would have like to have seen the Ronald Colemans' 1936 black and white version. The TCM channel on cable, had the 1952 version its was a study in chivaly, personal honor, and how many different brilliant colors the King of Prussia had worn. I had to wonder is there a different uniform for each days of the week? While I was on the pondering, I had noticed a Gemini plot is universal. In the prizoner of Zenda the unknown Kings cousin comes to do some fishing but winds up being the look a like stand in for the king. In your memories of school, could you remember, "The Tale of Two Cities" and the "Prince and the Pauper". The first mentioned is set during the French Revolution, where one man not related to the prince dies on the guilotine to save the prince who is well loved by a woman. I had the thin recallection that Tyron Powers played in this movie? The Last gemini movie I had seen was "The Prince and the Pauper". It was similar to the Zenda, except it was about two young boys in England when Edward the First died. In this one , Errol Flynn played a broke soldier of fortune who decides to protect the youth thinking him to be the pauper and later believe the tale that he is the young prince made king. There is a more recent gemini story made in to a movie. The Story of "The Man in the Iron Mask" by Alexander Dumas. It is in this tale, the four Musketeers are matured and have gone their ways when the musketeer regiment had been disbanded by the new rulers of France who control the teenage King who is really a dupicate of the real young King played by Leonardo DiCaprio. I think it might have been one of the DiCaprios first roles. I wonder who, had the gemini plot first? Monsieur Dumas, wrote during to 1500s I guess his was first? do you know of others? I had enjoyed the movie imensely, its a good popcorn and Cola adventure movie to watch.

Date: 10/20/2012 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    There are so many remakes of old movies and I love watching them...I don't know of any others who have made The Man in the Iron Mask..loved the story anyway....
Date: 10/21/2012 1:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    You said, "Monsieur Dumas, wrote during to 1500s", but you're off by about three hundred years. Alexandre Dumas (pere) was born in 1802, and died in 1870.

Date: 10/22/2012 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 62722    They make these movies using what they call "artistic license" and the movie in no way resembles the true story, and how do we know that this Dumas guy wrote the true story or did he also use "artistic license", anyhoo, most movies are watered-down versions of what really happened.

Date: 10/22/2012 9:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    Man in the Iron Mask is one of my favorite movies, I like "Gemini Plot" stories. In the Man in the Iron Mask the King was actually born a twin but since you can't have two kings the mother was told the second twin died. He was hidden away and eventually put into an iron mask so that no one would notice his resemblance to the king... When the king turned out to be a terrible person the musketeers decided to switch the twin in the iron mask for the twin who was the King. It may have been one of Leonardo DiCaprio's first movie roles, but he played Luke on Growing Pains in the 80's.

Its like what the reporter said at the end of the movie, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance". He said,"When the facts of a legend come to light, keep printing the legend." Thank you for your reply.
