Odd food pairings

I seem food obsessed lately.  Saturday night we were invited over to someone's house for dinner.  The husband cooked.  He made stir fry and it was probably the best stir fry I've had anywhere.  He said when he was stationed in Japan a neighbor taught him how to make it.  Besides stir fry we had sticky rice and garlic Texas toast.  Yes, you read that correctly, garlic Texas toast.  It didn't even smell right with the other food and I didn't eat any.  It left me pining for egg rolls.

Ever been served a strange food combination?

I always thought it was strange when people make spaghetti and then serve a vegetable as a side item, like green beans lol. Ermm...how about just a salad and garlic toast, thanks.

Date: 10/16/2012 6:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848     my mom used to use cottage cheese in lasagna instead of ricotta. I never knew you should use ricotta until I was much older.

Date: 10/16/2012 7:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 27705    i like mac n cheese and steak... my husband insist that the two don't go together
Date: 10/16/2012 8:16:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    AO, that is weird! To me, potato isn't really a vegtable, it's in a whole food category of its own.
Date: 10/16/2012 8:16:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Silversnake, that isn't strange, but I'd rather have a potato with steak.
Date: 10/16/2012 9:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 61966    My mom's boyfriend loves carbs! Everytime we go over for dinner, I bring my own veggies because his idea of "veggies" is mac n cheese and corn...or potatoes, and corn. or mac n cheese and potatoes. Come on..wheres the real veggies??
Date: 10/16/2012 9:30:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    lol B&B, I love my carbs too. My favorite meal is chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes AND corn.
Date: 10/16/2012 10:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 61966    Oh no...not you too, Kelly!! LOL
Date: 10/16/2012 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    About twenty years ago I was helping out the wife of a friend of mine who was several months pregnant. She requested (and I served it to her) dill pickles & vanilla ice cream!
Date: 10/22/2012 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    Garlic Texas toast sounds pretty good right now. Not sure about having it with stir fry though. I like putting bbq pulled pork or chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, is that odd? Kelly, have you tried making chicken and noodles with corn in it? It's really good that way, especially if the corn is fresh or frozen.
