Wasabi; a pain like no other

My husband and I ate out the other night and split an Ahi Tuna appetizer.  I mix wasabi with soy to dip my tuna in, but I guess I accidently left a chunk of wasabi on my fork.  I knew it almost instantly because the spiking pain spread up my nose and into my sinus, at that point all you can do is ride it out and hope you aren't whimpering out loud for the whole restaurant to hear.

do you like spicy hot food?   The people of Fort Wayne, IN apparently have very delicate palates because the food is generally bland.  I asked for the hot salsa at a Mexican restaurant and their idea of spicy is extra onion.  I like onion, but come on!  Onion is not spicy.

so do you like spicy food?  What is the hottest thing you've ever eaten?

Date: 10/14/2012 11:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 36994    I love spicy food! It is definitely interesting how different cultures perceive something as spicy!? I think the "hottest" thing I have ate...that I can remember...would be between a batch of jalapenos my mom made a salsa with and a type of chili that a family member gave me to try. I have no idea what it was called but it was a small...yellow...orange colored thing with little black seeds. It was delicious but my mouth burned before I even chewed it.
Date: 10/14/2012 11:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 64819    Starting when I was pregnant with Joey Mack, I love the spicy stuff, before that, I couldn't even tolerate Old Bay seasoning.
SmoknJoe has this stuff his brother bought, it's called Slap Yo Momma, it is so good, and it is as spicy as the name implies.

Date: 10/14/2012 11:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 64365    I love spicy food...and the hottest thing I think I have ever eaten was the Scotch Bonnets. Next to that are those little dark red peppers used as a garnish in Chinese Food.
Date: 10/14/2012 11:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 52489    I like the taste of spicy food, but my digestive system cannot handle it, so I have to be careful what I eat. Wasabi is an exception, though. I lived for several years in Japan, and so I love their food. In Japan there is a delicacy called Wasabi-zuki which is a pickled wasabi root. Making a proper one is considered an art, and every year they have contests for who can make the perfect Wasabi-zuki. The judges, of course, are previous winners themselves. The whole thing is like the Japanese version of a Western Chili Cook-Off.

My 3.5 year old lives wasabi thanks to Tow Mater. I didn't want to let him try it, but finally gave in.

Date: 10/14/2012 3:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 39350    My stomach cannot handle spicy food. My husband on the other hand LOVES it and is always trying to get me to eat it. lol
Date: 10/14/2012 3:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    My poor stomach cannot take hot spicy foods..chilli, though it puts a lovely flavour into food, if eaten can send me to the hospital..soooooooo I steer away from anything that I know is spicy..I have to ask when out if there is anything spicy in the menu I choose if it looks suspicious lol...
Date: 10/14/2012 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    Oh and I've never tried Wasabi because I was worried about it being spicy..
Date: 10/14/2012 5:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hiya, Kelly! I like spicy food, but I do not like it to the extent of being in pain. I have three cayenne pepper plants in the yard, along with a couple of bell pepper and jalapeno plants. The bell peppers are not hot and the cayennes and jalapenos are what I'd call mild. One year, I grew a couple of habanero pepper plants and those things were way too hot for me. Carina's mystery pepper description matches those little yellow/orange bombs. My favorite way to eat pepper is to cut up tiny little pieces in my rice and gravy. Write on.....
Date: 10/15/2012 8:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 14314    I am from México, so, yes, I LOVE spicy food
Date: 10/18/2012 11:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    Yes, I love spicy food! I eat jalapenos with a lot of my dishes and one night I must have picked the hottest one... it burned not only my mouth but my hands (from cutting it) and yes... I touched my eye... for hours! O_o ouch.
