USM isn't as great as it used to be I have to agree. We need to do something. I miss the"mystery" aspect and getting a good scare. I see a lot of bickering and rudeness now and then which breaks my heart. I miss the friendly environment it used to be. |
Date: 7/28/2012 7:39:00 PM From Authorid: 30097 Sorry, sorry. My fault. I'll come back more often. I know my presence has a huge impact and all. I've neglected my people ;-) |

Date: 7/28/2012 8:03:00 PM ( Admin-Z ) Daniel, maybe you could contribute more for us to read and comment on here..when other people complain that our site is boring I'll tell them the same thing also... |
Date: 7/28/2012 8:59:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34663 Zema, I would post more if anyone would even be here to read it, most of the people that used to post, and post replies on here are gone and also I am sure my two posts an hour wouldn't help the site at all. We need more than me posting on here to help the site, we need everyone to start posting again. I too miss the mystery aspect of this site, this site is called Unsolved Mysteries and it's been years since I seen anything posted that seemed to fit with that title. Perhaps if this site advertised a bit. This site in the last couple years have turned into a place to chat but that's what facebook is for and everyone seemed to realize that too. Not sure what else I can say here except good luck with the site. I will stop by every month to read all the posts posted in the month which I am sure all will fit on the main page. |

Wild Magic and Moma Bug, I just knew that things would pick up as soon as you both walked in the door ... PB, it looks to me that people did view this post. Almost 140 people, and maybe looking in to see if you had some ideas on how or what to post. There is so much to talk about these days and so much that can be posted about. We have more information at our fingertips now than ever before. Beings that this is my site, I know that there are a few times each year that get slower than other times. The beginning months of summer are one, and back to school time is another. As with anything in life I have a perspective that is just my thought. Be a part of the solution, and that is just the same here too. |

I often come back just to say hi to my old friends cause I barely post anything at all . But as I see it Usm has slowed to a trickle and well I dont wanna see the site go but its Ginger and George's decision on what to do and if they decide to pull the plug I will resepect that and if not well I hope Usm at least can become a board where everyone can say hey or maybe we could just have the chat . I am not ready to see it go but like I said its up to my friends and Ginger is not ready yet. |
Date: 7/29/2012 9:55:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34663 Hi Ginger, those 140 views could have been the same 14 people ten times each, and also so many times I see the same response, I visit but don't post much. Why? Because as I mentioned this has turned into a general topic forum over the years but these days that's what facebook is for. Even news stories, poetry and how to are shared on facebook. You need a facebook page, something that will give people a taste of what they will get here on the site. You can share funny photos, uplifting quotes, comics, interesting news stories and so on. People will like the page and be tempted to click on the link on your page leading that person to this site. It's free advertising, I say give it a try, what's the worse that can happen? It costs you nothing so if you have very few likes oh well, and who knows you may end up with thousands of likes and thousands of new members to the site. |
Date: 7/29/2012 2:11:00 PM From Authorid: 63041 Please please please don't make a facebook page. Everything in life has become so inundated with social media impact. One of the reasons I love this sight is that there is NO pressure. The wonderful folks that find this haven and stay found it for a reason... were looking and liked what they read or felt. It gets slow, many of us lurk. Yes, we long timers even ARE boring somedays, and that is the wonder and joy of this place. I don't want USM to be another facebook or myspace where it's a popularity contest or a who knows who. So what if we are boring. That's the beauty of the internet. Each to his own and no one has to visit if they are bored. I get your point Doughboy, but there isn't any reason to change this site. USM and facebook can coexist and never be joined. Works for me. |
Date: 7/29/2012 2:37:00 PM From Authorid: 26303 Yes it is quieter...yeah, even boring at times...but I still check in almost everyday and read a post here n there....You can't say that FB isn't boring either...it's quietened down, in my opinion...at least here, the stories are usually more in depth...and you can choose what you read. Sometimes I'm reading statuses on FB, and wish immediately I hadn't... |

I revel in my boringness. *shrug* Better that than put up a snotty sounding post. Ginger was way more gracious than I'd have been able to be Here's an idea. Rather than complain about the site being boring, write an awesome post that pulls the lurkers out of the woodwork. That's how it works, yanno. One person writes a good post and it reminds another person of some story they've heard or better yet, reminds us of a personal experience to write about. I love the ghost/spooky/horror stuff. Yeah, I know about the Colorado shootings. How could any of us not? It might be that we use USM as our little port in the storm. A safe haven from the real life horrors so many of us are facing. Who knows. If I want news, I'll go to CNN. And I do. Daily. If I want that feeling of safety, I come here. And I do. Daily. But hey at least ya did get some comments to your post. |
Date: 7/29/2012 5:50:00 PM From Authorid: 2124 I'm definite in agreement with Silver Alexis, Aussie Girl and Altaira. I may not take time to post much, but this is a wonderful place for me. I enjoy the community spirit thats here, and I don't ever see that on blogs or social sites. Also people here actually take a moment to write more than one or two words, and they would never think of just typing 'like'. That almost seems rude to me, no matter what the circumstance your talking about. Happy, sad, mad and I get 'like' other places. Here I get genuine people that respond like real people. JMO |
Date: 7/29/2012 9:08:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34663 First off I never suggested changing USM I was only suggesting a way to get free advertising and second Facebook would not turn USM into a popularity contest, it's advertising, many companies advertise using facebook because it's free. I plan on starting up a business and I am going to be using Facebook to advertise my business. I see nothing wrong with a facebook page just so long as it's sole purpose is advertising, and secondary purpose to share a few things with it's followers possibly even share some of the posts from here to get people to join the site. Of course the page would not allow outside wall posting, I think when advertising on facebook your page should be where only you can post. |

Date: 7/30/2012 9:42:00 AM From Authorid: 30747 USM is more than posts and responses. I've been here almost 11 years and it represents 11 years of my life. It is filled with people who have been there for me, whether they are here 100% of the time or not. This place has memories of my son growing up and going off to college. It has seen me marry and divorce. It has seen the best of times and the worst of times. "boring"? Just like my life, I don't expect it to give me any more than I give it. There are pages and pages to read and respond to, how do you find that boring? |

Negative to the Facebook page for USM. USM is it's own site. And granted this site may be slow but people lurk and still come here, we are still one big loving group of USMers and are always here when we need each other and to me quiet frank, I'm content coming here and talking to ya'all and not the FB World. |
Date: 7/30/2012 9:58:00 PM From Authorid: 62602 post about the jackson fmily that';; get people talking lol. they're all over the news. i think since mj is gone his brothers want the spotlight...and so does his kids, and parents, and m not sure about his sisters though. lol |

Date: 7/31/2012 9:25:00 AM From Authorid: 61966 It'd be better if we all make comments and REAL posts, instead of complaint posts. People still come around, some just are lurking. |
Date: 7/31/2012 9:30:00 AM From Authorid: 19092 << lurker... |
Date: 7/31/2012 9:50:00 AM From Authorid: 64593 Ginger replied with so much more kindness than I think I would if somebody suggested my site was not quite as active as in the past therefore it is probably, "time to pack it in". My apologies to you for sounding harsh, but where does anyone get off having the audacity to suggest that about something that other people have worked so hard to keep running? Yes, it is slower than when I first became a lurker and later a member, and maybe stories are not up to the standards that others wish they were, but instead of posting something negative, my suggestion is for those who want to complain, to instead write a post that you would be interested in reading and commenting on whether it be horror, news, mysterious, riddles, whatever. |
