Hi Pale Knight, thanks for reading, I hear it from both houses, mine and my boyfriends- we live in the same area, walking distance. I don't think it is bees, but it is something to keep in mind, thanks for the suggestion! (It sounds almost like a jet engine, but its all around, weird sound) |
Date: 1/22/2012 3:39:00 PM From Authorid: 43991 Hmm.. that is so strange! I've never heard anything like that. Thank goodness! I'd be creeped out and probably have trouble sleeping, lol. |

That is so odd, but it seems others around the globe are experiencing it too http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2011/10/viewers-guess-what-causes-the-mysterious-hum/ for other articles enter 'hear a strange humming at night' into google. |
Date: 1/22/2012 5:06:00 PM From Authorid: 15228 here is wikipedia's entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum It seems like not everyone can hear it. Have you asked your neighbors if they hear it? Ah, just saw you read the same article as I did...how did I miss that the first time?? duhhh |
Date: 1/22/2012 6:44:00 PM From Authorid: 65547 I don't know if what we hear in South Texas is the same thing you are hearing, but for the last two months there have been lots of military flying over my house...even the "stealth" planes (maybe that's what you are feeling/hearing). (?) Can't seem to get any news around here, either, that will say just what is going on with the extra activity!...strange stuff here, too ~islandsquaw |

Hi everyone, Thanks for reading and for all the comments. Now here are some things I found out: I asked my dad if he heard anything, and he said he had been hearing the same noise for the last few months, and described it the same as what me and my boyfriend heard. No one else in the house heard it though. I looked online, apparently there is something called, 'The Hum' which is being heard all over the world with the exact description as what me and my boyfriend heard- there is a wikipedia page and various people from all over the world, especially from United States, Canada, UK, and New Zealand have heard this hum. The thing is, not everyone can hear it, only about 1-10% of the population has reported it. Also, it seems when the moon is full, there is more reports. Interesting... and now I am truly concerned. If anyone else hears it or heard it, please comment. Thanks for reading and be aware of this "hum" no one knows the cause yet and officials are saying its water pipes... riiiight, all over the world? Sounds weird to me. |

Date: 1/24/2012 9:42:00 PM From Authorid: 26598 If its select people, globally, the most scifi idea, is Telepathy tuning. you could test this idea by having everyone when the moon is full and the hum comes back to write a number, dont plan it, just when it happens to write a number and see if how many gets the same number with out planing it. |
Date: 1/30/2012 4:21:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 11097 Hi Pale Knight, interesting idea... maybe we will try it. It's been quiet the last week but the full moon is going to be here next weekend, so we will see. I wonder if anyone else from USM has heard it? |
Date: 2/5/2012 12:05:00 AM From Authorid: 63962 I don't think this is the "Taos Hum", as it's known. It could be, but usually, with that hum, one person hears it and the next person(s) in the same place don't hear it. But you say that both your and your boyfriend hear it, so I'm guessing it instead is one of the many recent occurrences of these weird sounds that people the world over are hearing. They take many forms but often sound like grinding, roaring, pounding, "drilling", or something like a large horn, unbelievably! LOL Check out "strange sound phenomena" on Youtube, and let us know if those sounds are what you've been hearing... |

Ok after reading your comment about you, your boyfriend and dad hearing it but others don't, I actually will backpedal and say it probably is the Taos Hum. Still, just as an aside, here is the address of a video that's got some of those sounds that I was speaking of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtLNmdZTf_g |

Hi Tall Godfather, as I was looking up strange noises I found some articles that pointed me in the direction of 'the hum' and after reading what people experienced it was exactly the same experience we had, same description. I am not sure what it is, but it was alarming to be honest. Although it sounded like a hum, it was piercing. But I will definitely check out the video, I was looking into all possible things before I thought there might be a connection with the 'Taos Hum' so it's worth looking into. Thanks for reading and commenting Also- full moon just passed, did not hear the hum this time. I will update if I do again! |
Date: 4/21/2012 12:55:00 PM From Authorid: 24673 I just happened across this post Zelana and find it interesting. It does seem rather spooky that this noise is a global thing and with no explanation. I don't know if I could hear it if it was near me because I have so many noises in my head all the time...can't hear people but I can hear all kinds of other crap. |

Date: 9/28/2013 7:50:00 PM From Authorid: 65040 I saw the episode of Unsolved Mysteries about the hum but the only difference to your situation is the people in the episode that could hear the hum would hear the hum while talking to other people who are right next to them who didn't hear the hum. For a lot of the people in the show the hum was driving them crazy. They didn't like it. It also seemed like in the show the hum never really went away for them. It was a constant hum. I saw the episode on youtube but now they band all Unsolved Mysteries from Youtube. Sadly. It doesn't really say from what I read on the Wikipedia page if the sound comes and goes or is a constant thing. So I don't know. I never heard it. |
Date: 3/12/2023 10:42:00 PM From Authorid: 63962 sometimes power lines or electrical equipment can short out and spark and arc for some time, and that might be the cause of the humming you heard. i realize this is 10 years after the fact, but, if you're still living in that place and hearing it, then obviously my explanation isn't worth junk. lol |
