Is This Considered Rude? KiKi

I'm just wondering if the following is rude or not.

It's really just alittle thing.

Say...your at a restaurant...your sitting at a table for four but your there by yourself. (mind you there isn't really one place table settings there)

...so there you are sitting eating ..then a group of five come in...this is including two children.

The place they choose is also a table setting for four. One of the adults there realizes.."hey! I'm gonna need another chair!"...then they go up to your table and GRAB a chair from you (without asking) and sit it down with a plop at their table.

Now this didnt happen to me...but I saw it happen..and I thought it was rude. The man that was at that table looked at that man that took the chair with a bewildered look. Then looked at me and my husband..as if saying "Did you see that?"

Well my husband and I thought it WAS rude...I mean what if that man was waiting for more of his party to arrive?

...So to you...is this a rude thing to do without asking?

Date: 12/8/2011 9:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 63258    I usually see people ask if they can have/use an extra chair from your table. Yes, I think it was rude. Common courtesy seems to be slipping away in our society.

...yes, common courtesy would dictate that he might have asked if the chair was in use even if obviously not.

Date: 12/8/2011 9:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 14314    I think it was rude, he should have asked if he could take the chair.
Date: 12/8/2011 9:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 51106    It was rude. Common courtesy would be to simply ask if that chair was in use before you take it for yourself.
Date: 12/8/2011 10:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    Yes it's very rude. and maybe the person did it absentmindedly but it was rude.
Date: 12/8/2011 10:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 63026    Very rude...He should of asked first.
Date: 12/8/2011 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 64365    Actually, yes...it could be construed as rude. The guy, however, probably didn't even think about that. He just saw a chair that wasn't being used, and took it. One person sitting alone at a table for 4 without a Reserved sign or the chairs being tipped forward to indicate they are reserved for others might have made him think the chairs were available for the taking. Still, he should have made the effort to ask.
Date: 12/8/2011 11:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 64819    I would have at least asked first, I think it was rude not to ask.
Date: 12/8/2011 12:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    Very, he should have had the decency to ask first.
Date: 12/8/2011 1:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    Yes, it was/is rude. But unfortunately, it's also the norm nowadays...
Date: 12/8/2011 2:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15157    well thank you all for your views that did mandate that this person was rude. I felt ashamed for him and sorry for the person seated by himself.
Date: 12/8/2011 5:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 61966    I think it was rude! He should have asked first, and what if he was waiting on more people? You see a lot of rude people these days..many don't care about being polite and respectful to others..it's sad.
Date: 12/8/2011 7:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    Yeah. I cant imagine someone not asking. That's beyond me.
Date: 12/8/2011 7:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301
...can you imagine how you would feel if he let out a big blast as he turned and left with the chair?

Date: 12/8/2011 9:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 64985    Mama Kat...I'm with you on this, I believe what the person did was rude. All you have to do is ask, "May I use this seat or is it allready taken?" Now hard is that?...Corolator
Date: 12/8/2011 10:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    Yes, it is rude to take a chair from another occupied table without asking.
Date: 12/9/2011 1:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    He should uv got 2 chairs, why stop at one?
Date: 12/9/2011 6:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 59286    Ive seen this happen and yes its rude
Date: 12/10/2011 4:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    It was very rude and he must have left his manners out the door when he came in
