Mississippi's Proposition 26

I used to live in Mississippi and about 30 minutes from the Mississippi border when I was an Alabama resident. I have been hospitalized there and my nephew was born there. So this issue could possibly be close to my heart even though I am a Texas resident.

One of my friends posted about this on their facebook wall and a huge uproar began. I thus did some research on the proposition and found that it goes way beyond abortion and could have very real negative affects for women on birth control or in life-threatening situations.

If you don't know much about it, I encourage you to read about it before posting your opinion oriented comments, as I only want to debate with people educated on the topic. I am very open minded.

This is the only government type article I can find on the issue, everything else is newspaper articles.

I agree in the aspect of testing people to vote. I think people should be educated on the issues they are voting on.

I however do not agree with the "personhood" labeling in this proposition. I am not a resident of Mississippi (thank God) but I do have an IUD and those are one of the forms of birth control that will be illegal. I cannot have hormonal birth control because when I was on the pill it caused liver tumors. I do not think the right to birth control should be taken away from women who are obviously doing the right thing with their life and trying to avoid pregnancy. I also do not believe any woman should be forced to carry a baby from having been raped. This proposition appears to be ludicrous and they are just saying that it's for "pro-life" but upon reading it, there is a lot more to it. Women who have had miscarriages can be subject to investigation by the state if 'deemed' necessary.
