Great Example of Fear and False Prediction

  Author:  11097  Category:(Predictions) Created:(4/10/2011 9:11:00 AM)
This post has been Viewed (2912 times)

Hi everyone,

There has been an increase of panic and doomsday articles and movies and books sweeping across the world these last few years. We are getting closer to 2012 and people have actually started to prepare for the worst. This post is not about 2012, but another event that has been "predicted" by a man named Harold Camping.

According to Harold Camping, the rapture will occur May 21, 2011. He has been predicting this date for a while now and he insists that many people will be raptured, those who don't believe in the rapture, will be left behind until October 2011 and the world will end in judgement day.

The reason this is not in debate, I am not debating his prediction, because I don't believe it

First, I want to say I know people who really believe this man. They are scared and believe all they love will disappear in May. The thing is, it shows how easy it is to manipulate with fear and I do not believe that to be a tool of real faith. Of course, religion has used manipulation and fear, but I am talking about real personal faith and salvation.

This man is giving the exact date: May 21, 2011 at 6pm. It contradicts what the Bible says, "that no man shall know the hour of the Lord" and the word "rapture" is not in the Bible. But this man insists he knows the hour and his reasoning: Noah knew about the flood. I feel that in this time, when people are searching for real faith in something, whatever it may be, there are people around who will do anything to control that faith or ruin it, and this is one of the worst things you can do to a human being, take away their hope and beliefs. The Bible says there will be many "anti-christs" and I believe that, I believe there will be many people intentionally opposing the word of God and personal faith.

This post is open to all believers and non-believers. This is not a post criticizing any religion or taking away from that religion. This is a post about a man claiming to be a "prophet" who predicted the world ending in 1994; he blamed the false prediction on miscalculation, but insists May 21, 2011 will be the rapture. This is a post about not giving attention to mass hysteria and a man who is obviously not following the word of God. This is a post to show that people who do believe are not so easily misled and that we do not blindly follow men and their words. This is a post to strengthen faith in God, and to not follow deceiving words. This is a post to strengthen human companionship and to learn that whatever our future holds, we are in it together.

What are your feelings on this man and his prediction? Have your heard of this before?

How it changed my life:

I am upset with the "cashing in" at the expense of faith.

Date: 4/10/2011 12:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    My fourteen yr old son hear about the 2012 prediction, and it really scared and upset him. So I told him what you basically said, that the bible says no man will know when it comes. I remember a date, I think it was June 6, 2005, where I'd watched some show, and it said that that was going to be the ending date. Might have been a Nostradamus thing... Anyway, I got myself kinda worked up back then, and of course nothing happened.
I don't even know what the 2012 thing is about. Maybe I should look it up. But then again, I really don't want to even acknowledge whatever it supposed to be based on. Maybe I will just out of curiosity. But I don't believe it.

Date: 4/10/2011 12:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    actually I think it was June 6, 1995. I wrote that wrong. Forgot what that one was about. Gonna look it up too
Date: 4/10/2011 1:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 23963    I am not going to believe a word this man says... I believe if and when it happens it will be when we least expect it and most likely come at a time when this world is in more turmoil then it currently is. For him to strike fear into people like that is disgusting. I hope people laugh on that day when the time passes and he was wrong.

Speaking of 2012, the doomsday predictions are nothing but to strike fear into people. The mayans stopped their calendar on that day, because 2012 is the start of a New Era. So yes, it is an ending to a new beginning. We are finishing now and moving into the Age of Aquarius. From my understanding of the Aquarius Age is it will help us to see the truth in all things. For example, the truth about our politians and how corrupt they are will begin to unfold. This is what I have read on the New Era.

Do not believe the junk about doomsday. No one will know the day that happens, best thing to do is just live your life each day and a time and enjoy it.

Date: 4/10/2011 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 14314    I agree with you Sis, I don´t beleive in this prediction, no one knows the day or the hour, only God. God Bless
Date: 4/10/2011 4:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 62722    It's so bac that people are buying Pet insurance to people that will take care of their pets if the "rapture" takes them away...alas.
Date: 4/11/2011 5:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I hadn't heard this one, I suppose he is cashing in on his prediction.

Snookums, can you believe my middle school aged daughter was studying the Malaysians in school and they talked about that 2012 prophecy?? She came home and told me, she was concerned, so we talked about it and she is no longer worried. I couldn't believe she had to learn it in school!!!

Date: 4/11/2011 5:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I just looked up Harold Camping since I'd never heard of him. Sounds like a cult leader to me and one that doesn't know much about his bible. He believes the Rapture and Judgment day is on May 21, 2011 and the end of the world is October 21, 2011. According to the bible, between the rapture and the end, there are something like 7 years of plague, but he is saying there are only 5 months between the rapture and the end...plus, judgment day is at the end of the 7 year period I believe.

Date: 4/11/2011 12:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 23963    Kelly, she learned it in School?? I wonder what some of these teachers are telling these children. Just does not seem right to me!
Date: 4/11/2011 1:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    Kelly, that would have made me really mad. My son heard it from tv.. It scared him really bad. He has high functioning autism, so he can get overly hysterical about things sometimes. So it took quite a bit to calm him down.
I have an aunt, that read a book concerning Revelations and Armageddon and actually suffered a mental breakdown over it. She had to stay in a psychiatric hospital for a while. That was years ago. I wonder how she's reacting to this 2012 hysteria..

Date: 4/12/2011 12:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 11097    Hey everyone, thanks for reading and for all the comments. The reason I posted this was there is a craze going on about "doomsday" and a lot of people are getting scared. The thing is, whatever our future holds, whether apocalyptic or not, we have to do the best we can, together, to make this world better. I personally don't believe the world will end in 2012, I do not see that in the cards for us. I do believe however, something will occur, whether we notice it or not. It could be spiritual, natural, astrological, etc.
The main focus was Harold Camping and his rapture prediction. I do not believe there will be a rapture, I feel it conflicts with the teachings. I also do not believe we will know the time of judgment, as I stated above no man will know, and if he claims he does that is all the more reason to not listen to his words.
I read many comments saying children were taught about doomsday and 2012 in school?! That is terrible to invoke fear. People should never live their lives in fear or according to fear but to learn and make the world better then how they found it and to help in whatever ways possible. I think it's best to not focus on the negative and doom and gloom and focus on life and growth and renewal.

As for this man, we can all come back to this post after the date posted and talk about it and LilWolf, it's funny you mentioned the whole pet insurance thing because the friend I know that believes this said to me: "what about my pets?! who will take care of them after I am raptured?".... scary.

Date: 4/26/2011 9:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 4231    Your spot on when you say that No man will know the hour of lord. The bible says we will NEVER know the time of judgement. I can rest easy knowing that NO prediction will be correct except the word of god.
Date: 1/16/2012 9:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 17275    Hangman I was going to write the same thing. Way to go, I agree with you 100%.
