Haunted Places in Iowa - SassyGirl

I've been getting ready to go do some Ghost Hunting soon. I think spring is finally here in Iowa and I like to go check out place that are haunted. I did some searches to see if there was anything around me close. I found 2 right in Algona which is only 10 miles from me. I didn't even know there was anything there. Here they are:

Algona - Gypsy Grave Yard - Just north of town is a small graveyard with an even smaller graveyard fenched off towards the back. It has been said that when the Gypsy wagon train would pass through town back in the 1800's, and one of there flock was sick and dying, in stead of taking them further on the journey and not having Gypsy hallowed ground to bury them in, they would just bury them there while still alive. Many ghostly figures have been seen walking around, and if you cross the small fence and walk on hallowed ground you will be cursed. This is a favorite haunt for the local teens.

Algona - Plum Creek Pits - Back in the far corner of the pits, there has been a little boy said to be playing near the waters edge. Legend has it that the little boy was running back to the river on the other side of the pits when he tripped on a stone and was stabbed by a stick he had fallen on. Some local fishermen who use to fish there say they have seen this boy walking on the bank of the pit. When they yelled to him he seemed to have looked up and ran back towards the river and disappeared. Nobody knows what this boys name was or how old he was.

I can't wait to go check these out but first I would have to get permission to be on this land from the landowner. I'll let you all know what I see when we get there. Not sure if I wanna go at night though. I'm a big chicken! LOL

Date: 3/16/2011 11:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    Awesome stories.....I dreamed of Your home state one night...it was wild! lol...I've been through Iowa it's beautiful & seems to go on endlessly...But the dream I had was real unusual, it has been several months ago but I still remember the dream clearly.....My older brother did some travelling a few yrs ago when he worked construction & drove a semi tractor trailer...he went by the battlefield in Gettysburg, Pa. he said it was truly something the sensations, feelings as well as a couple sightings he experienced while passing through there.....One never really knows...I honestly don't know what to believe....but I will say this, I dream of my husband quite frequently, he's been gone for 10 years...I have never seen anything out of the ordinary as far as an image of him etc but there wewre some very unusual unexplainable things that happened in the home we had shared together...& last night I dreamed of him....& it was real uncanny considering he was discussing something with me in the dream which is currently affecting me.....I thought it was so unusual, in the dream he looked straight at me, telling me about this issue...stranger things have happened I guess....anyway., great post...Happy Hunting & if you do go out at hunting at night, take a flashlight! lol Best Wishes!.....T/C
Date: 3/16/2011 11:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 12862    I heard about Gettysburg being haunted. I wouldn't wanna go there at night. lol I love reading and watching about haunted places but I'm to much of a chicken to go at night. Just like when I went to Witches Graveyard. I didn't go at night either. I wouldn't want to do what TAPPS do either at night. I'd be the first one to scream and run!!!!!

Date: 3/17/2011 6:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 48250    Yea, a lot of people say Gettysburg is amazing, yet I would feel sad, or maybe I'd be like Shaggy & Scooby, "Rut Roe Raggy! lol .... Yesterday I passed a turn off to a battlefield., I never really thought about that until now, guess when things like that are close by we kinda take them for granted....& I 2nd that with ReleaseMe have fun, stay safe & take plenty of pics....can't wait to see them!.....T/C
Date: 3/17/2011 12:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    The Gypsy Graveyard sounds really scary! I don't know if I would go... certain things scare me, lol. If you go, take some pictures for us and be careful. I want to do some investigating around my area too, we are just waiting for some good weather to get out there at night. Keep us updated!
Date: 3/17/2011 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    Oooo... I went to Gettysburg! It's awesome there one of the best places I have visited. We went on a ghost tour and they tell you all about the buildings and stories of the area, definitely worth a look if you go. Also, we stayed at a hotel called, James Getty Hotel, which was said to be used as a morgue in the basement... I didn't know until afterward. The hotel itself was really beautiful and had a lot of interesting history. The first night we were there I was woken up by something, not sure what it was but I thought I seen a hand crawling up the wall near the closet next to me. I was so scared I jumped up and thought it was a big spider but when I turned the light on nothing was there. Creepy, huh? Let's hope it was just my imagination.

Date: 3/17/2011 8:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    Be sure to update us on what happened after you do it. I'm sorta jealous, I think I'd like to go do something like this. But then again, I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough. I wouldn't be so afraid of what I might encounter while I'm there as I would be afraid of what might follow me home.
Date: 3/19/2011 8:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 24673    They sound like really neat places to ghost hunt, when you do, let us know.
