Yup, that is what I said. My wonderful son graduated last May from High School and now has joined the Iowa National Guard. He was suppose to start college this fall, but due to his oldest sister, he didn't. He did get a great job working at Dunham's Sporting Goods Store in Spencer. He loves working there.
I took him to the Clay County Fair in September there in Spencer. It's called "The world's largest county fair" so they say. Anyways, the guard is always there and he has alway loved going over to look at their big guns and tanks. So this year I took him over there and talked him into signing up! They gave him a free T-shirt and told they will be getting ahold of him soon.
Two weeks ago the sergent showed up and gave him more stuff. Last week he took his first test and passed. This week him went to Des Moines for his big test and physical. HE PASSED BOTH and now is in the GUARD! I'm so very proud of him! He starts guard this weekend for training but doesn't go to Basic until January. Then he'll be gone for 16 weeks because he is going into the artillary. He loves that stuff. I'm going to miss him but I know he's doing something GREAT for himself and our country.
Here's a picture of him that he sent me in his uniform........
