A middle-aged man was found unconscious in a church Monday night. The mystery man, believed to be in his 50s, and had a heart rate that was fine, but his pupils were fully dilated and he was unresponsive when ambulance officers arrived. He was taken to a nearby hospital in a serious condition. A police sergeant said the man was too ill to speak until yesterday, when he refused to divulge his details, telling hospital staff, ‘‘I want a new identity’’. The only clue to the man’s identity was an appointment card for an physiotherapist. So as I read through this story on the news, I wondered if there had been much thought to the appointment card, and what that might say about the mystery man. As far as I know, physiotherapists may work with someone after injury, accident or surgery. Has this man had surgery or an accident that caused the memory loss? Well that could be, but why then less than 48 hours after being found in the church, would he already be asking for a 'new' identity? I surely think that if I lost all my memories, I would want to wait for a few weeks if not months to see if doctors could help the mental condition. Or, I might want to wait for memories to return on their own before starting a brand new life. Somehow this man seems to know more than he is telling police in my estimation. What do you think?
