Friday afternoon I was just waking up from an afternoon nap when I heard bells. I don't have an ear for music, so I can't tell you what note they were at, but it soundeed like many different bells all being shaken together. Not like church bells, but more like fist-sized bells. They seemed to be coming from a long way away.
I went to my bedroom window and looked out, but I could see nothing. I knew it couldn't be an ice cream truck because that vendor uses a tape-loop of "Turkey in the Straw".
The bells got closer and closer, and then stopped. After a moment, I shook my head, and started to lie down again when the bells started up again. This time they seemed to be circling the house!
I ran to the back of the house to look out my study window, but the bells moved off in the opposite direction. I ran back, but they were going away now. They faded into the distance, and I never found out what they were. *******************************************************************************************
I heard the bells again yesterday, and ran outside to find out what they were. The answer was so disappointing that I seriously debated about whether I should post the answer.
There's a new ice cream guy in my neighborhood. He pushes a handcart around, and uses bells mounted on a string between the handles of his cart. The inertia and motion of the cart makes them ring.
