I got your message, and moved it for ya. No prob. I lived in Arizona for 18 years, but I don't really have much information on this subject. You have more info gathered here than I think I heard while living in Phoenix and Mesa. I'll check back on this post to see if anyone has info on the Dutchman part of the story. Good reading by the way !!! ![]() |

Actually, I think the story of the Dutchman's mine is a conglomeration of several gold mine stories. The geology of the Superstition Mountains--where the mine was supposedly located--is not indicative of gold being in the area at all. ![]() |

Arion, there has been gold mined around lots of area's in Arizona. George and I even went up to a couple of streams in northern Arizona and panned for gold. We didn't get anything but sore backs .. LOL. But it was fun, and a way to get out of the heat of the desert. Arion, you speak to the geology of those mountains. Does the presence of gold depend on how the layers of earth were formed, and whether there was volcanic pushing and pulling of the earth from beneath? Interesting subject !!! ![]() |

We went hiking in the Superstition mountains one year in February. It was already hot. I can't imagine what it must be like in the warm parts of the year. ![]() |

It's REALLY hot, Wildbob. And that really hot weather has killed at least one person out looking for this (the subject of this post) mirage. God Bless.. ![]() |
