2010 Oregon Get Together T-Shirt Design Contest
The Basics: The purpose of this contest is to provide a fun outlet for usmers to celebrate the 2010 Oregon Get Together. The way we see it, we want everyone to be given a chance even if they are not going.
Usmers can upload their designs through May 15, 2010. At that time the committee for the T-shirt contest will vote and pick the winner.
The winning design will be featured on 2010 Oregon Get Together t-shirts starting May 31.
Capture the essence of USM in your design. We can't wait to see what you come up with!
How do I get considered for winning?
I never have done this before, so surprise us with what you create! We're looking for creative designs that communicate the essence of USM. As you create, think "What does USM means to me, my family, and/or Usmers around the world." And remember that this is for the 2010 Oregon Get Together! USM families worldwide will be able to buy and wear your t-shirt. Keep your audience in mind.
Make sure to submit your design by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on May 15, 2010. When you are ready to submit please contact Haunted ID #14018 for where to send the image.
How to create your design. Technically speaking, anything goes as long as the final product meets these requirements:
Each section of your design must be no larger than 10" x 10"
It must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch);
It must be a PNG or JPG file smaller than 15 MB.
T-shirts will be printed in full color. Here are the possibilities for your creations: Gather your art supplies and go to work on a physical piece of art.
When it's done, turn it into an electronic file by scanning it or (if your art isn't conducive to scanning) taking a clear, high quality photo of your design.
Create a design electronically by using designing software such as the Adobe Creative Suite.
What types and sizes of files should I submit? The best type of file to submit is a PNG file (smaller than 15 MB).We will also accept JPG files (smaller than 15 MB).
Your design should be no larger than 10"x10" (you can have one 10" x 10" section for the front and/or one 10" x 10" section for the back).
Your file should be 300 dpi or higher.
T-shirts will be printed in full color.
You can create an electronic file in almost any design software, scanner or digital camera and then convert it to either a PNG or JPG format.
We will use Zazzle to publish and print the t-shirts. They will be on sale through their site. Therefore, you'll need to follow their rules for what types of files you can submit. You'll actually send your file to us (not Zazzle), but if yours is the winning design, it must also be compatible with their regulations (though we'll compress your file to the proper size as long as it's 15 MB or smaller).
FAQs
What if I don't know how to scan images, change file types and control the size of my files?
What a great opportunity for you and your children to learn some new tech skills! We'd suggest you google answers to your questions. You might even find some great tutorials on YouTube.
What color will the t-shirts be?
Create your design to work well on a white or light-colored shirt. But to keep things simple, please don't design for a dark colored shirt. If you're working in a design program, "perfect white" (RGB value 255, 255, 255 or hex value #FFF) will show up transparent on the shirts. (If you don't know what RBG or hex values are, you probably don't need to worry about it.)
What part of the t-shirts will have a design?
You can design a 10" x 10" section (or smaller) for the front of the t-shirts.
Can I submit more than one design?
Yes, you can submit as many designs as you'd like. If you submit more than one, make sure to name each file something different (e.g. tshirt1.png and tshirt2.png) so you don't overwrite a file you've previously submitted.
Do I have to be a professional artist to create a good design?
No! No matter how young you are or how much experience you have, you can be creative and work hard to create something you're proud of.
Is this contest for all Usmers?
We're encouraging everyone going or not to get their creative juices flowing and create something great. Of course, the whole family can jump in and work together!
What do I get if I win?
The great artistic satisfaction of seeing other people wear your design! You'll also get free t-shirts with your winning design.
How do I buy t-shirts when they're ready? Where does the money for shirts go? When May 31 comes around, we'll let you know how to purchase shirts. USM won't earn any profit from the t-shirt sales.
