“Where did that black darkness come from” His voice still panicked and shaken. “Where do you think it came from? Just like everything for you it just appears right?” I hated it when people asked stupid questions they knew the answers to. He looked at me with a distant look almost in disbelieve. “I just have never seen any of us do that before. In fact as I knew only the older ones could cloak themselves in night. I just…” his word trailed off as I was not going to listen to his ramblings. What was he thinking? Did he think it mattered what he could do or anyone else? I was living in a broken world with a broken soul. What did life hold for me anymore or better yet what did this afterlife hold for me? I could still feel the energy from the soil resonating in me. It was so calming and relaxing like a warm blanket wrapping around you in a freezing storm. The hollow emptiness in me seemed to only grow the more he was around me. I hated him for everything he had done. I just wanted to burn, to let the darkness in my soul burn away to ash. Why was I still here? I could set a fire again and burn myself.
There was the idea. I could burn everything around me into nothingness just like I felt. “I took her to the local doctor, explained she was attacked by an animal. I think he bought it.” The sound of his voice creped back into my brain. He saved her for now. “Look I think we need to find some normal balance in this life. We need money to live on and if you are hell bent on finding the source of us then you need money. Nothing is free in this life.” His voice was pulling on my last nerves. That hesitation in his voice and actions only made me want to rip out his throat and leave him to bleed out. Would that kill him? If not maybe he would grow up a bit. “What ever.” I had nothing to say as I clenched my fingers into my fist, pushing in the nails deeper. I could feel the cold resonating and dripping from my hand. Do not kill. Resist the urge. I licked my lips. “You know you should have had some she was very tastie.” I could see through his thin veil he wanted to. He had craved her as much if not more than me. “Look lets head back dawn will be coming soon and you will only get more thirsty.” He wanted to lead me back but I was no dog following on command.
I moved away from him taking another path to the house. He followed me. “Without the blood of werewolves during the day you will become thirsty the longer you are in the sun. That would reveal us to those who would hunt us down and kill us. Remember anything a human sees as not normal they kill, no questions.” I could see an angry mob pounding the streets of an old town with cobble stone walkways caring torches in one hand and crosses in another. I could hear the clicking of their shoes on the coble stone marking their movements like sand falling in an hour glass. The rushing sound tink, tink, rushing faster as they moved closer. I would imagine they would carry signs protesting us to our end. Too bad humans would never see me coming. I would be like Dracula hiding in plain sight waiting to kill each of them as they would get lost in the mist. The blackness would cloak and cover each of them. Who would be on my menu first?
I breathed in the vision smelling their blood and unique sent. Their eyes would be transfixed open staring like lifeless dolls. Their skin would turn a pale alabaster. Their lips would be a subtle shade of pink, barely noticeable. The blood, fresh and rich with life for stealing. The only smell that would be left of them would be decay. No one would be around to stop me, or clean up. “Look I have a job so you will need to find one.” His hand on my shoulder pulled me from my peaceful thought. I let the darkness do the talking for me as I slashed across his chest. The cold numbness of his body greeted my hand. “I will do as I please when I please. You are not the boss of me. Get this through your head. You have no influence over me and never will.” The tone took him back. Part of it had caught me, but it was who we really were. We were the darkness that filled the night and closets. We were what hid under the bed waiting to get just one taste. The sooner he realized it the better. We were darkness, and death. I was the lonely villain waiting to strike.
