The beating from my own dead chest said that this was what I was to be. I was now as certain as the moon that I was the darkness in this world. Control would not be something I could do right now. I felt the pull from the animal. Its breath in and out. The heartbeat wetting my mouth. I could almost taste its sweet warmth. The heartbeat like a drum called me to this dance. One step forward, two to the side. Its smell like warm sun and fresh cut grass. Its little heartbeat picked up. Although it could not see me it could feel me. The cold darkness waiting for it to make just the right move. One step to the right and four steps forward. I was almost there. I could taste the skin against my mouth. I wanted to feel the warm pulse under my tongue. I could wait no more. I leaped for it taking it down in one movement. Both of us tumbled and rolled into the waiting ground. Not as graceful as I would have hoped but I could not help it. I pulled its neck toward me.
The skin so warm and the heart beating in my mouth made me sink in my teeth. Its warm liquid pouring ever so slowly in my mouth. I breathed in deep the warmth of it. The animal had been in the sun. The fear to most would have polluted the taste but to me it was a rich spice I loved. I could taste the coldness sweeping over it and the warmth of it filling me. It felt like a warm breeze brushing over my skin. It was just out of palpable feeling but its embrace was still the same. The warmth of the blood filled me. The pulse as it screamed out from the animal begging me to stop became still. I licked the last of the blood from its neck but I could not let go of the embrace. Its body still warm stung my cold skin. I needed more. I wanted to feel like a flame and burn all the darkness away.
I could hear two heartbeats dancing as one chased another. I moved dropping the lifeless corpse to the ground. Warmth called me. I wanted it, them. I would have them both. I moved closer to the sounds stalking them silently. My world was colored red and only heartbeats was what I could see. I licked the air taking in their sweet taste. Desire colored my thoughts. Everything should be an ending. I licked my lips as I drew closer one step at a time. They were making noises I did not understand. Nothing coming from them made sense to me. I just wanted their blood and their warmth to be mine. I ducked behind a tree. They would soon be mine. I looked to the right to see the shirt carelessly thrown away from them. I moved closer to them. Humans. My mouth salivated beyond my control. I felt like I was a drooling animal begging for blood. They were so close to the water. I could taste it in the air mixed with their skin.
The boy jumped in. The other, a girl did not move. She stood shaking her head at him. To them night was their cover and no one would see them. To me I could see everything but the one thing I wanted called to me. Her heartbeat was gentle and sweet like her. She smelled like artificial vanilla and flowered shampoo. Her short hair moved slightly in the small breeze. Her arms wrapped around her body and I could see the goosebumps from here. She was cold. He splashed about teasing her attempting to get her wet. I just had to wait for his back to be turned. She would be warm enough for what I wanted. I moved closer to her. Her blue eyes caught in the moonlight giving them an eerie brightness. I wanted to possess them. He made a noise and dove under the water. Now was my chance. I moved grabbing her. One hand over her mouth pulling her from the moonlight. He would never see her again, well maybe I would show him the lifeless corpse. I pulled her toward me and my waiting mouth. I would lick in her warmth. I felt my lips on her throat gently opening my mouth against her vein. The scent of her filling me. I licked over her vein to find just the right spot.
