How Do Soda Fizz Savers Work?

We have all seen them or used them, those little plastic screw on caps you put on soda bottle that preserve the soda for what seems to be forever. But how do they work? First we must understand how soda it's self works. Soda is the combination of Co2 and H2O two things that don't mix. So how do they mix them? The two elements are forced together with pressure where they are store in cans, bottles, large canisters for soda fountains, or what ever. But to keep them from going flat they must add air because as soda site you notice those little bubbles that come up.

Yes, that's the Co2 escaping so the counter pressure from the air keeps the Co2 from escaping. That is also why when you store the soda pop bottle after use it is under pressure when you reopen it, that's the Co2. So to keep it fresh the soda saver screws on top and you pump in air causing counter pressure keeping the Co2 where it belongs. Just be careful you don't over pressurize it or you must burst the bottle, but make sure you have enough pressure so that you can not squeeze the bottle.
