When I was very young my great grandpa would go "sanging" it brought in extra money and I had almost forgotten about it. But when I was a little girl, I would help him wash and dry the roots and get them ready to take into town for sale. Recently The Toledo Blade ran an article about this and it brought back the memories.
Right now it sells for about $400. a pound. There are white roots and yellow roots. The Chinese use it for cancer prevention, and other remedies. I came from southern Ohio, near the bi-state area, Ohio, W Va, and Kentucky, lots of woods, and this stuff must have grown wild back then because Grandpa would take a burlap bag out and bring it back almost full. Now I hear there are restrictions, I guess its become more profitable than selling pop cans.
I'm just curious what others know or want to share if they know, $400.00 per lb is pretty good money.
