FireFighters...

Firefighters..... We owe so much to. you may not have ever had them come to your home, but they do more than you think. This profession isn't about rescuing your cat out of the tree. It's so much more.

Speaking as a volunteer firefighter myself, let me point something out. What kind of crazy individual, in their right mind, would volunteer unpaid, to save people and their homes? I would. why? I may never know, but I enjoy it.

It is a fact that Firefighting is the worlds third most dangerous job. Not all necessarily because of the fire, explosions and such, but the leading cause of firefighters is Heart Attack...... Let me explain.

It's not as easy as it looks. Firefighters don't just run in and rescue the victim, and put out the fire. The whole time, from the time they get on that truck, til the time the fires out, their hearts race. It's stressful, even in just training. Your heart can only take so much of that. Knowing that there was a victim inside that couldn't be rescued breaks their hearts.

They don't get paid enough, but if we pay them more, your taxes will go up, we RELY on volunteers like myself. I'm not just rambling on, just something I feel like talking about. I thoroughly enjoy what I do. There's a passions involved with this job, you either love it or hate it.

As a Firefighter, I am no hero, I am nothing to be worshiped. I was just doing my job, that I volunteered to do. Thank you to all who appreciate firefighters, especially volunteers.

Date: 9/5/2009 9:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 37150    I am so greatful to firefighters! They are fighting so hard to finally put out the CA wildfires. I am so sorry to the family of the two firefighters that died.
Date: 9/6/2009 5:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    I think Firefighter are awesome!

One time our electricity got shut off and tge power company didn't turn it on til the next day. The Rickytheghostseer got a severe asthma attack.

I had no electricity to give him his treatment so I ran him to the FireDepartment down the street.

Those guys were so helpful and understanding. They helped me set up the nebulizer and took Rickys blood pressure and oxygen levels so efficiently and calmly so not to scare him.

And there are other times of assistance aswell such as the fire we had. They are true Heros!

Date: 9/6/2009 7:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 43991    I remember during my big car accident the firefighters were first on the scene.. I think we were right by a station or something..

Anyway, one of the guys told me he had been in the shower and he kept joking with me. I remember he really kept me in high spirits and I didn't even cry for a long time. I was totally in shock of course from all the pain and all.. but he really helped.

When I have seizures they always come to my house with the ambulance too and even though I never really remember it I hear that they are always real helpful.

I know the volunteers are really helpful as well

Kiki is right, they are true heros!

Date: 9/6/2009 10:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 36901    I appreciate them for sure. I have two friends (husband and wife) who are on the VFD in their town. He is a firefighter and she is a first responder. I've seen first hand what the department does for the community. They are all heroes for sure.
Date: 9/6/2009 12:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 49025    I know what you mean! Half my family is in the fire department! Some are fire fighters and the rest are fire marshalls. Thanks for putting yourself in harms way to keep citizens safe!
Date: 9/6/2009 12:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 51876    You guys rule, Rescue Me is a great show also and Denis Leary made the show up as a ode to Firefighters everywhere.
Date: 9/6/2009 1:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 3835    I have a deep respect for Fire Fighters. I work with two men who are volunteer fire fighters. I hear the stories and understand it is not just about fighting a fire. I thank all fire fighters, because without you, we are destined to lose much more than we should.

When my home had caught on fire, I saw the fight in the fire fighter to control it. I saw the compassion and remorse they felt when the fire was out and there was still a great loss.. however, I saw it as a triumph and victory because no person was hurt or worse.

All was saved but one of my cats. A Fire Fighter had gone in to try and save him, but he was no where to be found until the next day. He had crawled into the inside lining of a piece of furniture, claws still embedded to the underside wood of the seat.. even I would not have been able to locate him in time.

Date: 9/7/2009 7:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    @}~~ I agree, sadly volunteer firefighters get a bad rap and I know a lot of volunteer and payed fireman and for every bad one there are 10 wonderful ones. Being a fireman {or firewoman} is indeed a very stressful job, I put them right up there with the police and those people that complain about them are usually the ones who whine aand cry if they call for help and help doesn't arrive in 10 seconds. So, my hat is off to you and to everyone who works in your field.
Date: 9/7/2009 8:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62163    Thanks ya'll, as I said I am no hero, I'm just doing what I love...Helping people. The sight of a family, or just one person releive that I saved them, or helped them in any way makes my heart glow. I'm still young, I will witness many more both wonderful and tragic experiences. Thanks for listening.
