Acid Reflux Cure

I know I don't post here very often, but I thought I would share this with everyone. If you have ever had acid reflux then you know how painful it is. You know that you can't sit, you can't stand, you can't lay down, it just plain hurts. Yes, I know you can get up and take a two hour walk but what if it's raining there's a random hurricane outside your window. What I'm about to suggest should work for just about anyone so long as they can afford it. Forget drinking the baking soda, or putting tea leaves on your feet or whatever you do.

Homedics makes a massaging chair that works on moving parts rather than vibration, it's called a Shiatsu massage cushion. This is the best I've found unless another company makes something like it. Lay down flat on the floor, then lay this cushion on your chest, set it to upper back and adjust till the rollers mostly hit your chest area. The pain will gradually subside and you'll feel a lot better. It is important not to use pillows, and you will have to lay there for some time. But laying on the floor for a few hours is a lot better than writhing in pain for 8-10 hours.

Date: 7/24/2009 4:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Or, you could just take the little purple pill! I take nexium. I had acid reflux so bad (it built up over a week) that my whole neck was throbbing, my chest hurt and I thought I was having a heart attack...also kicked myself into a panic attack, went to the er where they "followed protocol", gave me nitrol and other stuff...in the end it was acid reflux...embarrassing! But also very real and very painful.

Date: 7/24/2009 8:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 24673    I take Nexium and if I miss a day, I'm in trouble, so it really works. I wouldn't be able to use the chair you suggested because when I lie on the floor I get a sick dizzy spell, but if it works for you, that's great. Thanks for the info,
Date: 7/24/2009 9:45:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 2335    The idea of the chair is that the other remedies didn't work...why is everyone suggesting pills?
Date: 7/24/2009 9:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    because they work!
Date: 7/24/2009 10:45:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 2335    yeah remind me never to share anything again.

I could understand maybe how a massage cushion could ease the pain, but how could it do anything for the terrible acid that comes up into the throat and mouth which is so strong that it takes my breath away?

I just couldn't imagine laying on a floor while I am having an acid reflux 'attack'. It would actually choke me to the point of me not being able to breathe.

The only thing that really helps me is Nexium. I have tried other acid reducers and though they may help for the moment, Nexium works almost immediately and it has a healing effect.

Date: 7/24/2009 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Hi ETOX-I have ARD & take Prilosec. It is very painful.
Date: 7/24/2009 1:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 2335    It works because it keep the acid moving in my opinion, if you let it sit there in one spot it's just going to fester. I mean, I should have known everyone would tell me I'm completely wrong but yet I keep posting here...
Date: 7/24/2009 3:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Etox, I'm not saying you are wrong. A Shiatsu massage cushion may help some people, but I don't see how it could help me.

Listed is an article called "What causes Acid Reflux?"

A band of muscle tissue called the LES is responsible for closing and opening the lower end of the esophagus and is essential for maintaining a pressure barrier against contents from the stomach. If the muscles weakens and loses tone, the LES cannot close up completely after food empties into the stomach which allows acid from the stomach to back up into the esophagus.

It's not that the acid is laying in one spot, but it is caused by a muscle that is weak and it does not close up to keep the acid from entering the esophagus. In such a case, I don't understand how a massage cushion could possibly cause the weak muscle to close up when it should close.

When I have an 'attack' I cannot lie down flat or in any position. I have to sit or stand upright because the acid is so bad that it comes out of my throat and my nostrils and I cannot breathe. There has been times that I wondered if I would breathe again.

I think some babies who die from "SIDS" actually had an attack of acid reflux but the doctors listed the cause of death as SIDS.

Seriously, I'm glad you've found something that makes you feel better!

Date: 7/24/2009 5:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I take Nexium and no more acid reflux for me..and if the cushion works for you ETox, that is good hun...I had it that bad that I and the doctors were worried about cancer of the oesphagus, so if a little pill helps I'll take it...
