Laying in bed late at night, dad had gone to work (nightshift) just mum and us kids home. I hear the back door open, and someone walk into the lounge room. I hear the cabinet with all the glasses rattle, as it does when you walk past it. I see the torch light flash up the hall, and I'm frozen with fear. I can't move to put my head under the blankets, I open my mouth to call out to mum, and not a sound comes out. I was literally frozen with fear. I heard the front door close, and manage to get my head under the covers. The next morning I'm telling mum, and she heard all the things I did, and she was scared too. NOthing was taken, nothing was broken. But I was terrified. No one locked their doors back then. Another time was when a friend and I saw a case of domestic violence. The guy punched the woman in the face and stomach and she fell on the middle of the road. Then he got into his car and was coming towards her, we were screaming at her to get up. She did, and we dragged her into the driveway of a house and hid her in the bushes. We hid somewhere else where we could see him. (it was night, no moon thank goodness. Our legs were like jelly, terrified he would find her or us. He drove up the drive a little, then drove off. We called the police and stayed with her until they came and took her to a safe place. |
Date: 7/17/2009 4:08:00 PM From Authorid: 53836 When I was 16, I was pulling into the left-hand turning lane, about to go over an overpass and then go north on I-35, when this gigantic 18-wheeler suddenly came barreling towards my lane from the opposing lane...I still cannot recall how I didn't get crushed and plowed over that day. I was in Round Rock, which is just north of Austin Tx and had my camp friend from Monroe, LA with me...I was more scared for her than for myself! I kept thinking if I don't die, her mom's gonna kill me! But somehow the diesel missed us so that I can feel blessed everyday! |

Newly widowed with a handicapped child, i turned to someone i thought i could trust (a preacher and former cop) and wound up in a relationship with him. After months of trust, he told he had used advanced methods and computer recording programs to splice together, from phone conversations, a tape of me confessing to something i never did, and would never dream of doing. I was terrified and didn't know who to turn to, so i took matters into my own hands and turned the tables on him. For months i played nice with him, gave into what he wanted, and convinced him i was still in love with him. All the while i was recording every phone conversation we had. One night i finally got him to confess how he made his fake tape...and i recorded every bit of it. By then i knew enough to let him know my unspliced tape of his confession would trump his spliced tape, not matter how advanced the recording method. When i told him what i had done, and that i made copies of the tape and each was in a very safe place, he was livid, but he backed off. It was scary, i was out a lot of money, but it was worth it! I have had many. You know I am a metalhead that went to lot's of shows..around 1992, the grindcore scene started up and bands like Deicide and others attracted some very violent fans. I come from a punk and metal mosh pit background, where the pit was fun and everyone didn't allow people to fall down and get trampled and also helped folks go stage diving. Up to then scariest pit I saw was Slayer's South of Heaven because of the brutality...but by the time of grindcore, people wore razor blades, big spiked wristbands and steel-toed boots and were really hurting people. I got out of that scene quick and because of them the whole metal scene died.I got into fight after fight in the parking lot, pretty much everywhere. That is why Grunge and alternative rock became popular to me, it was about humanity. I was once surrounded by 100's of blacks who wore Crips blue and I was wearing a red bandanna and had 2 pretty girlfriends, it took all of my self control and charm to get out of that situation. Oh there are many more...my life has been nothing but confrontational. |

Date: 7/18/2009 9:04:00 AM From Authorid: 64365 Years ago, when my kids were still teens, they would often drag home other kids whose parents had kicked them out (tough love strategy) and I would take them in, give them a place to sleep and feed them. My house was always full of other people's kids, and they all called me Mom. One time, when my youngest was working at the Kettle restaurant, she brought home this 18 year old boy named James. He had the mentality of like 12 or 13, and I later discovered that he had been placed in mental lockdown facilities several times. James was getting to be a handful, so I called his mother, and I told her I couldn't care for him anymore, and being that she WAS his mother, she should take responsibility for him. My son facilitated the move out of my place, and it went very easily. A couple of months later I get a phone call at work at the same time my boss came to my desk. He was telling me, as were my kids on the phone, to listen to the radio. James had gone to live with this lady and her nephew in Houston, Texas. The nephew thought he was going to inherit his Aunts money, which was like she was living on a retirement pension and she had her endowment from her late husband. Anyway, the nephew talked James into killing her...stabbing her brutally and strangling her...so that he could go ahead and inherit the money. James was caught, because he didn't know to run, because he didn't know that he was being set up, and later the nephew got caught. I was really shaky upon hearing about it. After that, I told the kids they had enough strays and not to bring anymore home. |

Date: 7/18/2009 10:41:00 AM From Authorid: 42703 When I was about 12..my dad was moving an old refrigerator out of the house. He had it out out on the pourch, with the door open, and he left to go get something. I don't remember why..but I went and sat in that thing, then shut the door. After about 30 seconds I relized I couldn't get out, the door was latched shut. So I just started yelling & crying..I was hitting the door trying to get it to open..but it was no use. Finally my mom opened the door..thank God she did, other wise I would've ran out of air for sure. |
