Via Boston.com: Ex-Celtic Walker arrested in casino Staff and Wire Reports / July 17, 2009 Former Celtics forward Antoine Walker was arrested Wednesday night in Harrah’s Casino in South Lake Tahoe, Nev., NBC Sports reported.
The arrest came a day after a warrant was issued stemming from Walker’s $822,500 in gambling debts. He faces three felony counts of writing bad checks. Prosecutors say he failed to make good on 10 checks totaling $1 million written to Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, and the Red Rock Resort.
Walker, 32, was reportedly led out of the building in handcuffs, and his bail has been set at $87,000.
Walker took out gambling markers at Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, and Red Rock Resort worth $1 million from July 27, 2008, to Jan. 19, 2009. Walker paid back $178,000, but now also owes $82,550 in fees to the district attorney’s office for executing the criminal prosecution requested by the casinos.
Walker last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008.
Walker earned nearly $100 million in a 12-year NBA career, leaving the University of Kentucky to join the Celtics as a 20-year-old for the 1996-97 season. The next year, Walker was named an All-Star. After two more All-Star seasons (2001-02 and 2002-03), Walker was traded to the Mavericks in 2003. He was traded to the Hawks in 2004 and returned to the Celtics for a 24-game stint at the end of the 2004-05 season.
Walker then was dealt to the Heat and served as a reserve forward as Miami won the 2006 title. He played the 2007-08 season with the Timberwolves but did not hook on with a team last season, although he hasn’t retired.
Walker averaged 17.5 points in 893 career games. With the Celtics, he averaged 20.6 points per game, fourth on the team’s all-time list. Walker played in 552 games for Boston and holds team records for 3-pointers attempted in a season (645) and in a game (17) and 3-pointers made in a season (222) and in a game (9, twice).
He was often criticized for taking too many shots, and once, when asked why he took so many threes, he uttered the famous quote: “Because there aren’t any fours.’’
Two years ago, a car, cash, and jewelry were stolen from Walker’s suburban Chicago home while he and a relative were bound at gunpoint. In January, Walker was arrested on charges of drunken driving in Miami Beach. © Copyright 2009 Globe Newspaper Company. >Vampyre Gerbil< You can join Unsolved Mysteries and post your own mysteries or interesting stories for the world to read and respond to Click hereScroll all the way down to read replies.Show all stories by Author: 50193 ( Click here )
