You should ask your doctor about side effects always. Also check up online about it. I've never had to take this drug so I can't tell you about it personally. I hope you find the information you need! Love, |

I quit cold turkey 11 weeks ago, but a couple of people I know that took this drug it worked for them, one of them who is a 2 pack a day smoker is already down to smoking just 2-3...she said it's so easy not to smoke! |

My hubby took it and I know a couple of people on this site has used it. The first pack of the medicine he took changed his sense of taste and he had some really vivid dreams. He was able to quit, but he had his moments when he was very moody. I wanted to take it, but I cannot take any type of antidepressant, and while this is not an antidepressant drug, it does have medicine in it that acts like antidepressants, therefore my dr told me that it would not be wise for me to take it. If you are scared to take it, then you should wait until you know everything there is to know about the drug and maybe discuss this in length with your dr. Being scared to take a medicine can do two things: it will either work and you have no problems or it won't work because you have let your fears interfere with the medicines ability to work. Good luck!!! |

I took it and did ok until I got off the starter pack and started on the regular 1 mg pills. I began having horrible dreams, they didn't make sense, and were very vivid. This seems to be a common side effect of Chantix. My sense of taste also changed and this could be from the quitting smoking as well. I unfortunately was one of the weak ones and went off the Chantix and went back to smoking but if I ever decide to quit again, I won't use Chantix. Nicotrol inhalers seem to work the best for me. Good luck to you! |

My sister is usually sensitive, too, but she was able to take Chantix without any problems. And she is now smoke free for the past 2 & 1/2 months. |

I am in the same boat as you {can't take hardly any meds} I would not take it if you are sensitive to medication. My father took it and he had side effects. But you can always try it and at the first sign of side effects STOP taking it. |

Thank you all for your help. I've been researching it online and still not sure what to do. I just know either way it goes I have to quit. |

A co-worker of mine used this perscription to kick a smoking habit of 20+ years. Previous to being perscribed, she had tried to quit cold turkey on several different ocassions with no success. She has been singing its praises and recommends it to any smokers. No side effects, and she was effectively able to kick the habit. Best of luck to you. - |

My friend Angie took it for awhile...the only thing I thought was weird were the warnings about the side effects, which include excessive gambling and promiscuity!!! NO JOKE!!!! |

There are very few drugs that don't have side effects, so bascially you have to be willing with a drug to deal with whatever side effects it has, weighing the "higher" of the two evils: would you rather have the problem you're taking the drug for be alleviated & deal with the side effects you have to go through for that to happen, or avoid the side effects & continue to deal with the problem? It's a real tough thing to have to decide on. |

I'd really like to take it, but one of the side effects is seizures, and since I have them I don't think it's a good idea to try this medication..as for the suicidal thoughts side effect...for anyone who has ever quit smoking they may feel this way on occassion! I'm 48 hours into quiting cold turkey and I alternately want to cry, eat, punch my husband and kick the dog. |

Kelly, been through that with the cold turkey, and went through that and eventually after 2 days of it gave in and started smoking again. I'm already bipolar and on medication for that, so you can just imagine my moods get really bad with the cigarettes. I have quit several times for months on end, but for some dumb reason, I go back to it. I was going on a year the last time I quit, and went back to it. Didn't think just one cigarette would hurt, but it did. |
