I saw a Clint Eastwood movie where an event like this did happen to a girl...I thought how chilling and terrifying it would be...I can see how you would still think of that can to this day |

As an adult maybe you could go to that site to see if the tin can is still there...possibly bring yourself some closure? |

Very interesting story. I have no explanation for what you heard, but it really did seem frightening. Did the sister who had visions hear or see or dream anything about the area or the can? |

This is very interesting Someday....I have never heard of this before...but there are many things we know nothing about...but that is not to say they are not true. I believe one of the oddest stories I have ever heard of was.... a women said she was reading in bed one night when a fly just kept bothering her so she got up and got the fly swatter . She said when she hit the fly it screamed...she said she was terrified! So many things can happen to us that we have no answers for! Good post! |

JellieBean, I have been back there several times, but a new bridge was built so the gravel bar is now part of the river. |

Hello Megan, and yes the Grandma you know isnt the mama I knew, but that's good. She is a wonderful very loving Grandmother and though I don't have a lot of fond memories of her as a child, I love her. And you must'nt ever think bad of her. |

Hello Lady Phoenix, my sister at the time rarely spoke of her dreams unless it involved the death of a love one. She is more open with them now, and one day I'll telephone her and ask if she recall's this incident. |

Posey, thank you for your comment. LOL As a child a screaming fly might not have scared me, but it sure would today. |

Ranger, thank you so much. And I will be reading your post's. Funny, but I was very uneasy about writing this story afraid of what people would think of me. But, now I know it's alright because I'm among friends with simular experiences. |

I think this is one of the best stories I've read on here. I think something like that would haunt me as well. Try not to let it bother you TOO much (I know...easier said than done). You were a child and no one would listen to you. You couldn't really have checked it out without the help of an adult. |

I'm glad you did decide to post it. Not only is it very interesting to the people reading, but it may also help you feel better to get it out. I know holding things in can really get to a person. I hope you'll share more of your experiences with us. Don't worry about what people think. You know what happened and there are a lot of people here who will support you and enjoy reading what you've been through. |

Thank you for posting this. My first impression while reading was exactly what you felt: like the tin can was an airvent for someone underground... |

Sweetie, I know you feel badly...but what were you to do? You were in a volatile situation. Would your mother have listened to you? |

Wow, reading this made me shiver!! I can understand why it would bother you but you were a child and your mother wasn't in any condition for you to tell her the story. If a body wasn't found, there probably wasn't any, and maybe it was a playful spirit! |

Very spooky! I'm sorry you had such a mother as you did, also. I could say more on that subject but I won't. LOL Anyways yeah I can see how that experience with the can would still bother you. Thanks for sharing the story with us! |

I'm so sorry that this happened. As a child though, there's nothing that you could have reasonably done, especially in your situation. Lots of love and hugs! |
