Date: 2/27/2009 7:20:00 AM From Authorid: 53836 i know jobs are scarce, but have you gone from construction site to site offering your skills? when my hubby is out of work, he always manages to find a crew that could use a helping hand. as for your destination... i'd scratch Califorrnia and Florida of the list as California is a flat-broke state who is struggling to pay it' state employees & witholding all tax refunds to try to get out of debt. Florida is experiencing rapid unemployment and the building boom that was going on in the past is a complete bust! really weigh your options before taking off into the unknown, for I wish you much happiness in your journeys...and I don't want you to needlessly struggle. Best wishes, many prayers, and MUCH LOVE |

Already tried that..The Construction sites only hire mexican/(Americans?) guys on the spot..They don't want the liability that comes with a ex-feon. Remeber that old movie Escape from New York where they put all the criminals init and put a wall around it to keep them in? It's what is happening today but on a much subtle level.it's done in lawyerspeak and board rooms. Thanks Stace for the support.,...at least there will be people willing to give me a chance in other places.I know what is going on in Florida and Cali...Being homeless there is way better than here. |
Date: 2/27/2009 8:50:00 AM From Authorid: 53284 How about posting a handyman add in your local paper? |

Everybody is doing that here Wild Bob.There are pages of handyman ads in all the local papers and newsletters. Also you have to have a registered business. I had some cards made ladt year and went everywhere in my area even giving estimates on a super cutrate level.Nothing, not one call..The reason is too many people have scammed folks that way. Lawsuits have been won by people who work on people's property and won. A homeowner is liable for what happens on their property that is why being bonded is very important and required to do any work on your own now..laws,laws and more laws..caused by scumbags who ruin it for everyone else. |
Date: 2/27/2009 9:26:00 AM From Authorid: 30742 I sure hope that doesn't happen to you. If my husband lost his job we would be in the same boat. They have told everyone that over the next three years they will be laying off. He has worked at the same place for 22 years, he saw people walked out the door he has worked with for years, it was like watching a execution. Last week he was told paycheck would be cutt to save more money. If he lost his job, nothing is out there, as all his coworkers who were laid off have run out of places to apply. No one is hiring , this is in the IT field. Its pretty bleak, so I am preparing myself also, for homelessness. We don't even own so much as a car. I think if ou own at least a car you might have an advantage. Thats shelter. So, all we have it Faith, Prayer and Hope. Best wishes to you. I pray that nothing like that happens to you . |

Yea ,I own a van..My liscence will not be renewed but not suspended..If you do not have insurance here they take your viechle and without a valid D.L. and even with the title couldn't get it out anyway. All it takes is being pulled over one time. I have been riding the bus, walking and riding my bicycle. I could sit here and try and hope that something will happen soon, but if I sit and use all my money, it'll just be the same thing in a month. Without any prospect for work..it just looks bleak all around. hope everything works out for you also.Bless you and yours. |
Date: 2/27/2009 9:47:00 AM From Authorid: 64637 It sounds like you will have a better chance if you relocate to another state. Good Luck Bru, I will definitely pray for you. Keep your head up and try to stay positive. Negativity will consume you if you let it. California is probably the worst place to go right now. They can't even pay the wages of people who are working for the government because they are so broke.HUGS |
Date: 2/27/2009 10:36:00 AM From Authorid: 53961 Times are tough. I don't think anyone can deny that. If you do go, I would suggest a bus. Trains are expensive. I don't know of any one state that is not suffering. California and Florida I do nt believe are good job hunting areas. I think that goes for any state on the border or that has an influx of immigrants. I don't know what to tell you, except to pray about it and then go to work to find the answer. That usually works for me. Good luck and God bless you. |
Date: 2/27/2009 11:22:00 AM From Authorid: 37150 California is doing no good right now. The unemployment rate here is ridiculous on accounto of the state needing to balance its budget. We're not getting our tax returns from the state and they're laying off teachers, too. Can't you get into construction? Well, I wish you the best. It's tough times. |

Believe me ladies.. tried everything...yea California looks really rough and going on the road would be more about writing about the experience than looking to find a "job"...Houston has a lot of Welding jobs but without money or a valid d.l., I can't get there. No money for gas...it is gonna take me selling off my stuff to get money to leave regardless. After discussing the situation further with everyone I know, I might push this to the limit here and keep trying. My landlord will have to just wait.he'll have to file a eviction notice which will give me 30 more days to hope something pops up. Once the phone and internet gets pulled, probably next weekend that does it for applications. So a fuse is lit and my gut feeling is I need to act now instead of hoping. giving it some more time, what I can and see what happens. Love Ya'll |
Date: 2/27/2009 1:35:00 PM From Authorid: 53836 i don't think anyone here is saying to rest on hope alone, but to approach each attempt at gaining employment with the hope that they might relate to your hardship or you might be just the person they were looking for or that you came at just the right time and they+are willing to give you a shot and the belief in yourself needed to make the sell. if you jave to wash dishes at a mexican dive at night to make ends meet, or mow yards, using their equipment, somebody,s out their, just don't give up. |
Date: 2/27/2009 1:37:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 Bruiex-my Brother, I am worried for you, and I am worried about you. Do you have "211" in your State? "211" (dialed from any phone) is a group of wonderful ppl that have the numbers and access to all possible social programs in any given area. The people who work the phone lines are compassionate, and help in any way they can. I would tell you to come to Florida, but Bruiex, there is nothing in Florida. We now have a record number of homeless, including ppl that lost their jobs & then their homes. You will be in my thoughts & prayers. Something good has got to happen for you. |

211, yep called them and they give me a bunch of numbers that run me in circles and give me nothing. You have to be Full blown homeles and lose everything before you can get any help.United Way,Goodwill, Salvation Army,Health and Human services all won't do anything. Now food, you can get anything else.Nothing, Nada unless your crawling, can't just walk in. Oh I'm not giving up Stace...I have already applied as of yesterday for a cook job, will I get it? maybe, maybe not...there is just too many people needing help.A person like me is always on the bottom of the list.Mowing yards, yea tried that too.. The reason why no one hires white guys like me (tattoos can be a factor) is that they do not think I will stay..I will get on my feet and leave while a hispanic will be grateful and bring 5 more of his cousins in for the same rate. While I can't get anyone I know to work for that kind'uve money and they know it. |
Date: 2/27/2009 6:21:00 PM From Authorid: 53836 i underdtand and have been saying the same thing for years. they live communally and send the majority of their earnings to Mexico. mike took a giant paycut over 10 years ago and has yet to catch back uo due to the illegals ability to make it on less pay. and yet a 12 pack of cokes was $2.50, now they're between $4-5. and everything else has increased as pay decreases. i do contract labor here and there. this week I painted the trim of the outside of a house that last week I painted the inside of with my boss. i also cleaned for the lady. i'll do anything to help my family stay afloat. i know it's rough though, and understand your plight. wish i was in the position to do more to help, but as i said before, you've got my prayers. |

Date: 2/28/2009 8:01:00 AM From Authorid: 820 Have you ever considered Alaska? I don't know if anyone here is from Alaska and can vouch if this is legitimate or not, but lately here in ND there has been a lot of buzz about Alaska basically paying people to move up there to Work. Depending upon the position you take, they offer sign on bonuses and the wages are really high. However, you must factor in the high cost of living up there as well. I don't know, I just figured I would throw that out there.. and again, I don't know how legitimate these claims are. |

Every person I know that ever went to live in Alaska, loved it, for like 1 month and then came back as soon as they could afford to. Beautiful to visit, hard to live there. I wish you the best possible outcome Bruiex. |
