Diary of a Chantix user day 1

So yeah, hubby and I have started our journey today on Chantix finally. Today is day one.

We both take .5 mg of Chantix this morning and we are supposed to keep smoking for a week. In the morning of the first week you take one .5 mg tablet. These are tiny oval tablets. You do the same day one two and three. Then day 4 through 7 you take .5 mg in the am and .5 mg in the pm.

For each following week of the program you take 1 mg in the am and 1 mg in the pm.

Our quit date is Valentines Day 2009. (Feb. 14th)

Well, I took mine this morning with a bowl of cereal. Best to take it then eat the pharmisist says. We also got prescribed Prochlorperazine to help wiht the nausea the pills can cause.

It's now 3 pm and I literally don't NEED to have a smoke. It's a tiny meh, sure I'll have one. Not a NEED.

I ate lunch and usually RIGHT after eating I'll go for a smoke. Not today. Took me an hour to decide to finally go out.

So my take on Chantix is, it'll work for me.

Insurance covers the medication. So why not go to your doctor and ask about Chantix? If it'll work for me, the pack a day I can't quit ever smoker for about 12 or 13 years, it'll work for you too.

I'll post again once I get to the 1 mg a day tabs and then again on the 2 mg a day tabs and a few afterwards, including any pitfalls I may have. I hope this helps some of you decide to kick the habbit. SO far, it's easy.

Date: 2/7/2009 1:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 61933    this sounds like something I need... I quit for a year almost then when I got the divorce started up again. I really want to quit, but the moment I get stressed out I NEED that cig. It's hard for people that don't smoke to know what it's like to deal with.

Good luck on this! I'm going to keep up with you and consider using this myself!

{{hugs}}

Date: 2/7/2009 1:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 64197    Hubby is on his second try with Chantix....the 2 weeks he had some really weird dreams, after the 1st month on the pills is when he started having mood swings and being crabby, he hasn't smoked in a week, says it leaves a really bad taste in his mouth. He has been smoking for 30+ yrs....the stuff works, just wish I could take it but I can't, I have to quit cold turkey

Anyway, good luck to you and hubby...you can do it!

Date: 2/7/2009 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I wish anyone who wants to give it away luck!! It's now 22yrs since I stopped and I wish I had never taken it up in the first place..I just stopped smoking one day as I got sick of the taste in my mouth and the smell in my hair and clothes. You're half way there Kenzie because you are trying...
Date: 2/7/2009 3:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 29532    P Rose, weird, it leaves no taste behind at all, and as for the wierd dreams, yup, side effect. I can't wait to see the dreams I have cause most of mine are weird already. Like our old hose being taken over by murderous Asains in helecopters.

Date: 2/7/2009 8:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 45397    PNK guess in Canada it's called Champix. I'm on day 13 of not smoking. I haven't really had much of a craving, and not one of the side effects it says may happen. I don't know bout yours, but mine says right in the info stuff to take with or without food. Good Luck PNK you can do it with Chantix/Champix.
