UGH THIS grrr OLD WOMAN...~~Distraught~~

So today we (my husband, daughter, son and I) go out to the grocery store and just as I was about to place my son (who's almost 3 and heavy for me to pick up) into a cart, and this old lady (probably 60 yrs old and no apparent problems..ex walking with cane) comes over, throws her purse into the basket part and walks off with the cart. Now I'm 7 months pregnant and so a 3 year old is preety dang heavy compared to a 3lb purse. (there's also plenty of carts around, this one is out by itself) At that moment, I kind of standing there in awe by what just happened (also with the most awful look on my face) as my husband just shakes his head. What really topped that off is that I ran into her 2 other times in the store and each time she shot me the dirtiest look any old woman can give. How many of you have experienced anything like this? Or what would you have done?

Date: 1/31/2009 11:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 49172    I would have said something to her about it. Probably a loud, very rude "Excuse me?" lol. If she would have asked me for the cart, I would have given it to her. I hate rude people. I'm the type of person who goes out of my way to be helpful and polite. When someone drops something, even being 6 months pregnant, I'll be the first to bend down and pick it up, I'll always say excuse me, thank you, your welcome, yes sir/ma'am, no sir/ma'am. I'll always hold the door open when someone is walking in. And it just irks me when all my kindness gets me nowhere. But I'm a firm believer in KARMA. lol. It'll bite 'em in the patoot someday.
Date: 1/31/2009 11:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    Well this old lady wouldn't dream of doing that to you sweetie...sorry it happened to you..

I would have said "excuse me" do you mind, I had that cart first...

Do you have to put a coin in the slot to get the use of those carts like we do over here??

Date: 1/31/2009 11:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 49172    Zema, I had my first experience with the coin in the slot carts a couple of weeks ago. I just moved to a new city, I musta look dumb truing to figure out how to get the cart for five minutes. That would have been a good time for a nice person to explain it to me. lol
Date: 2/1/2009 12:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    Yeah I think the supermarkets were losing too many carts with the kids stealing them and leaving them miles away from the stores....

No one would dare jump in and try to take it when you have to pay to use them...

Date: 2/1/2009 2:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 37150    People like that are unhappy and rude and I figure no matter what I'm personally happier w/ myself than they are, so i think when stuff like that happens to me, if they need it THAT badly, they can have it and i won't waist my time/breath/make a scene w/ an altercation. I am so sorry that hideous woman was like that. It's not your fault, nothing you did and you know it. *HUGS*
Date: 2/1/2009 4:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 15677    some peeps are just rude, she should have gotten another cart
Date: 2/1/2009 4:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 15677    we have the pay carts here in some stored too because we live by a bunch of junk yards and the bums use them to scrap stuff then ;eave them in my yard. im always callin krogers like hey i gpt 5 of your carts here an they come an get them.
Date: 2/1/2009 5:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 21266    OMG I would totally lose it!!!! I don't know what she was thinking. Honestly I would've just held in my anger, her being as old as my grandmother, I have too much respect for the elderly. Sorry you had to go through that! Man some people can be so insensitive.
Date: 2/1/2009 5:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 62579    I would have not said anything to her but I would have been wondering why she took the cart. Once I was in a store and I got a cart and then I seen a woman that was about to get the same cart. I was like 2 steps in front of her. I noticed she was after the same cart and had a small child. I asked her if she wanted that cart so that she could put her son in the front since it had one of those belt things. At least I did offer but she was nice and said it was ok and she took the cart with no belt.
Date: 2/1/2009 6:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    Aw she was probably more sinile than rude...That never happened tome but it did to my Mom and Dad once a while back before she passed...It was christmas time and the baskets where in short supply in the particular store they were shopping at. My Mom mustve gotten the last cart and as she turned to look at something this younger person took her cart. Well my mom was glad she didnt have her purse in the cart yet.
Date: 2/1/2009 6:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    Ok so she was rude than sinile ...feel sorry for her rather than what you are feeling now.
Date: 2/1/2009 6:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 62722    WWJD
Date: 2/1/2009 6:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 62849    I would have probably said something.. "Ma'am, if you wanted someone to get you a cart, I certainly would have done it, but I was trying to lift my son into this one and I'm a little hurt that you would just walk off with the cart while I have my son mid-air.."

Although, I also have to say- make your husband lift your son into the cart- he sure isn't 7 months pregnant!!

Date: 2/1/2009 7:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    I would say perhaps she just didn't realize it had already been taken but, then again I know some people think it's their right lol. I've had it happen never when I was pregnant though but, when the kids were little and I needed two grocery carts just for them and the groceries. Okay, I still need two grocery carts but, now they are old enough to be able to push one lol.

Back, on subject I have always just shook my head and quietly thought to myself I bet the wheel falls off soon enough

Date: 2/1/2009 7:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 21764    wow! that is really rude.. if I was pregnant and my hormones were a goin' that day I would've punched her.. old lady or not.. LOL
Date: 2/1/2009 7:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 4995    How utterly rude!!! I would have been very mad at that old lady!
Date: 2/1/2009 7:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 33401    At costco an old lady ripped a cart out of my hands. I dont know why they dont have enough carts. Either way they're in the the wrong. Love
Date: 2/1/2009 7:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 21903    I love it when old people think they are entitled to do whatever they please JUST because they are old. Didn't they ever hear you have to EARN respect? That would have ticked me off and I likely would have shot my mouth off. way to have self control!!
Date: 2/1/2009 7:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 21903    Keeks is right; feel sorry for her---because likely she is very lonely bein rude to people like that all the time!
Date: 2/1/2009 8:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 40145    maybe she didnt realize you were using that cart, or maybe she thought you were leaving. but I know it sucks, Im sorry it happened to u
Date: 2/1/2009 8:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 63201    I would've told her flat out that it was my buggy and take it back. But I'm evil that way.
Date: 2/1/2009 8:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    Yeah, I have had an experience with an older person in the mall. One time my husband, two youngest kids and myself were leaving the mall and we had stopped in the walkway to look at our receipt. We were not blocking the walkway in any way as people were passing by with no problems. This old woman came up to us and literally SCREAMED at us to get out of the 'bleeping' way. She actually cursed at us!! We were so shocked I started laughing. She then proceeded to push my youngest Son out of the way. Then I lost it. I told her not to put her hands on my child again. She then started screaming at us even louder and called us "white trash"..LOLOL!! I am sorry, but that literally cracked me up. That woman was NUTS!!
Date: 2/1/2009 9:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 1799    I would have said something, and I wouldn't have been nice about it. And I would have shot her a dirty look right back. Or told her if she did that too often, her face would get stuck. lol.
Date: 2/1/2009 9:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 44960    I would have just Prissed her off and went on about my business! *Spirit*
Date: 2/1/2009 12:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    I would have loudly said you are welcome for the cart, don't worry I will get another one.
Date: 2/1/2009 12:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    I would have punched her in the face.
Date: 2/1/2009 8:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    Rika took the words right out of my mouth
Date: 2/1/2009 9:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62887    nope Zema.... carts are free for all here
Date: 2/1/2009 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 53558    :} I once had an 'old dear' give me a £1 pound for my trolly. I was shocked as it was a none paid trolly. I am sorry that happend to you. *hugs*
