Exercises to strengthen my back...any suggestions?

Exercises to strengthen my back...any suggestions? I'm a CNA and need my back to perform my job - especially when I'm leaning over a resident. I dont want them to know I hurt, its not about me. Sometimes I have to leave their bedside and stretch out a bit. Yoga? Sit ups? I'm not familiar with all the non-aerobic things out there. Any suggestions?? Or even websites? Thank you! illy

Date: 1/12/2009 10:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    Yeah stretches are good. I suffer with a bad back, and stretching is important. You need to stretch those hammies too. Believe it or not, they play a huge role in how your back is feeling. Walking regularily too, is very benefical. Hard to explain the exercises though. Will check out the net and see if I can find something for you.

Remember though, that to lift anything with a bit of weight to bend your knees and use the strength of your legs....but seek professional advice hun...

Date: 1/13/2009 11:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    You need to strengthen your core. You can get a pilates cd and start to do the workouts. Of course, you should check with a doc before you begin to do these.
