Date: 1/11/2009 5:07:00 PM From Authorid: 53054 I was shopping for a dress for our engagement the other day and we happened to pass the 'kids' section of clothes....I wish that they had those clothes in my size! They were better than the dresses that were for my age and size and more sophisticated...they had sequences, low cut v necks, short and black...all looked very adult to me...I thought they were at first, then I reliesed what sizes they were (little kids) I was shocked...I turned to my partner and told him they were like what I wanted and he was shocked as well...clothes are way too sexy for little kids in my opinion, but if the parents want to buy it for them, then that is what they get! Its not the kids faults, they dont really get to choose their clothes until they are a bot older...I think its ok for the parents to want their kids to look cute, but sexy is not required! |

I'm a very, very overprotective mother so, all of my daughter must be covered. She can't wear tank tops and belly shirts are out of the question!! I don't allow her to wear the V neckline shirts (she has a few) I require her to wear a tee shirt underneath it. She has mini skirts but, I make her wear shorts and leggings with them. I do believe that children's fashions have been geared more towards looking older than the child should. As a mother, be it my son or daughter I'm very conscious about what they can and can't wear. |
Date: 1/11/2009 5:38:00 PM From Authorid: 63026 To me it's about keeping up with the Joneses. And who can have the sexiest daughter. I think most designers think the majority of americans want their daughters dressing up sexy cause I guess they think we watch mtv, and want our daughters to be like grown up adults they see on tv...Designers need to realize most parents won't buy those clothes for their kids. |
Date: 1/11/2009 5:41:00 PM From Authorid: 10245 heck yeah! And it's darn close to impossible to find anything that IS appropriate today, especially when you get into the tween sizes. |
Date: 1/11/2009 5:42:00 PM From Authorid: 63194 I don't like the term "sexy" when speaking of children. I will say however that the clothes are too revealing for kids. |
Date: 1/11/2009 5:46:00 PM From Authorid: 26303 And yet another problem with society!!!! You are so right. Problem is these days, kids don't get to be kids! What should be reserved for adults, or at the very least late teens, is freely available for kids. From clothing to what we watch on the screen(s). Then we wonder why kids do crazy things, that usually only adults did. I say, let kids be kids, keep 'em innocent. But having said that, it is very hard in todays society to be able to actually achieve that. |
Date: 1/11/2009 5:51:00 PM From Authorid: 8817 yeah I think they are too adult however kids want to dress with the style as well.. I grew up in the 80's and 90's.. my clothes were lame... However, so were the teenagers of that time LOL. I think it all goes with what the teens and young adults are wearing. Young kids still do have the elmo and barbie outfits but face it once a kid hits about 8 they no longer want that and they want to look like the big kids. |

I like little girls to look like little girls, not tiny adults, but, it must be hard for mothers to satisfy their daughters when all their friends are allowed to dress in the latest fashions that are around for little kids. It's the same for the underwear when little 6yr olds can have padded bras and though they may not be thongs the briefs are pretty close to them ...A child that is dressed appropriately for their age stands out in a crowd .. |

Date: 1/11/2009 6:58:00 PM From Authorid: 23075 I don't like the word sexy when referring to kids clothing, I think they are a lot more provocative than they used to be. Thank goodness my girls didn't like that look. But I tell ya some of the things I see these girls wear today, no way in heck would my girls get out the door wearing them. |

Yeah i agree. I work at a restaurant and I was appalled one day to see a little girl, probably not even 3 years old, and she was dressed in leopard print mini skirt sports bra type thing. Gawd it was awful and everyone was staring. I mean, aren't parents embarrassed? Or like when kids' t shirts say inappropriate things that are meant to be "cute" but are shocking instead. I can't really remember what the shirt said...and that's probably better since things are G rated here. lol.Don't even get me started on teenagers w/ their inappropriate tshirt slogans. >_<;; one girls' shirt said "Blank Me" straight out. |
Date: 1/11/2009 7:35:00 PM From Authorid: 37150 P.S. yeah "sexy" probably isn't the word you want to use referring to kids' clothes.lol. but we know what you mean. sexy = inappropriate |

Date: 1/11/2009 8:54:00 PM From Authorid: 53052 yes and no.. i think there has always been clothing for kids that pushed the limits.. it's just a bit more available now.. i do like seeing nice clothing for kids that don't have logos of some cruddy TV show on them or really cheesy patterns.. there have always been "leggings" for children, tweens, babies.. today my 13 month old was wearing nice white slacks and a simple shirt.. i think it looks very nice.. i regularly put her in dresses and i've gotten MANY compliments on how i dress her |

Everyone knows kids want to feel like they're cool and like they fit in.. fashion designers play on this when they're coming up with ideas for new items. Everyone also knows that celebrities usually dictate what is in style. With people like Paris Hilton telling them what's hot (no pun intended), of course they're going to seek similar styles. Little kids also seem to think that they're smarter and more mature than they really are nowadays. They think "they know best" and Mom is just outdated. But, in reality, these little girls should be, like you said, out playing in overalls.. not prancing around in a miniskirt. They even have thongs for little girls now and padded bras. I find that repulsive.. In short, I agree with you. Clothing has become WAY too provocative for such young girls. My boyfriend's mom has three ten-year-olds (triplets- two of them girls) and they dress very modestly. Yes, the girls can wear the flare jeans.. as long as they're not skin tight. Yes, they can have low-cut shirts.. as long as there's a shirt underneath. It's all about moderation.. I think instead of giving into your child's uninformed demands, you should compromise. It really is important to make sure your kid isn't singled out in school, because that can cause emotional stress.. but there's no need for you to let your kid dress like a streetwalker if you're not comfortable with it. |

Actually, I was going through the girls section while shopping for my daughter (you have to go through the older girls to get to the baby area), and I noticed how much more modest girls' clothes were than I have seen in the past. *shrugs* Maybe it's just where you come from. However, I think teenage girls are always trying to push the limit. And then wonder why they have creepy old me trying to hit on them. I was always a pretty modest teen...for that very reason. |
Date: 1/26/2009 4:46:00 PM From Authorid: 63846 I definitely agree. I've seen little girls walking around looking almost like prostitutes and at such a young age! It's totally insane I think it's wrong. The parent's must be out of their minds to allow their children to wear that kind of clothes. The earrings on them are getting too big, too. Out of control, man. |
