Illy, I guess you need to look at it from different angles If you are a religious person than I have yet to see anywhere that it says and all of this will occur on this day when, the world will cease to exist. If, you do it the scientific way then, as scientists and a naturally curious group should we not be able to shift things in another way? |

Date: 1/7/2009 10:23:00 PM From Authorid: 35720 Like I've always said.. if the earth is going to end, it's not going to happen on some neatly packaged, cutesy date like 12/21/12. |
Date: 1/7/2009 10:24:00 PM From Authorid: 35720 Also, people have been predicting the end of the earth (incorrectly) for hundreds of years. |

Ok, read the brief topic and the replies, now here am I to reply. I am probably as bad, if not worse, than you, when it comes to the History channel and the 2012 Doomsday. If you look, there is ALOT on it on the History Channel and on History International. The show that caught my attention, to be honest, was Decoding the Past, of which, episodes regarding the Mayan Doomsday Prophesies and the episode regarding just 2012 Doomsday. Now, it was not just the Mayns more than 2000 years ago that predicted this, but also Nostodamus, Edgar Cayce, The Oracle of Delphi, Merlin (the real one, not the King Arthur legend) and others, including, yes, it is included, the Holy Bible. The Book of Revelatins talks about a Prophecy when Christ shall return to the Earth. Now, personally, I am not a Christian and do not subscribe to the Christian beliefs, but I do believe, as do many scientists, that SOMETHING will happen on Dec 21, 2012. One thing to take into account is that a wonderous event will be happening. Our sun will be at the center of the Milky way galaxy. This is an event that happens ONLY once every 26,000 (yes, thousand) years. The last time this happened? Right about the time we had our last ice age. That is science, not a prediction or a guess! Although I do find it interesting that this event would happen on Dec 21st. This being the Winter Solstice, but to Pagans, it is also the time of rebirth. We are NOT the first sentient beings on this earth, we are NOT the first to evolve to the point of intelligence to build cities and civilizations, we are the 5th! What happened to the other 4 would be a good question, I would think, but, again, this is science. The Mayans calender mentions that we are the 5th and science backs it up. I do not know what will happen on 12/21/2012, but I do know in my heart, that something will happen that will change our world forever. |

I saw this advertised but didn't get to watch it. I also have a question. In most of those shows on the History Channel, they come up with the opposite views of the theme toward the end. Did they here? What did the skeptics say? I for one am quite doubtful of the whole thing. Even keeping an open mind, how on earth could those people from different parts of the earth come up with that, without even the minutest bit of technology like we have today? And Nostradamus, no. I don't believe that stuff. Those quatrains, or whatever they are called, are always "interpreted" after events, and always stretched to meet today's events. Ancient man may have had some knowledge of some things that we have lost. But at this magnitude? I think it is more a case of the old human habit we have of giving mysterious civilizations from the past mysterious powers that match the mystery we have of them. In other words, we may not know much about them, so they are an open field for our imagination, and we thus attribute all kinds of power to them. That's my take. |
Date: 1/7/2009 11:58:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21203 I stopped watching it. I decided to turn the channel. Didnt a "scare" happen when we came to the year 2000? Or was it 2001? I dont remember. Thank you all for responding! |

Date: 1/8/2009 4:54:00 AM From Authorid: 63201 I watched Nostradamus 2012 and a few other Armageddon week shows on History Channel too. I do believe we need to pay attention and be cautious, without going overboard. I'm not in a state of panic buying up gallons of water and canned food and gas masks, etc. If something catastrophic DOES happen on that day, or any day, there won't be a whole lot we can do about it anyway. I just pray that God will take care of me and mine if it is indeed "the time." |

There are so many stories and theories concerning this, from a planet that we cannot see on the other side of the sun that emits so many radio and microwaves we cannot see it. This planet's orbit coincides with the 26,000 years Samantha was alking about, It is the Great Destroyer known in all ancient writings. I know that projected Solar activity such as flares and sunspots will be at it's peak after that and we could see widespread interruptions of all electic and electronic machines and devices. Here is a link to a video about the magnetic pole shift, which has happened before and will again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hujQg2E_fDw |

Date: 1/8/2009 7:33:00 AM From Authorid: 48809 The world is NOT going to end...but it will definitly be changing even more. As we all know we live on a 3rd dimensional planet and the reason there is so much going on is because the earth is on her way to the 5th dimension and into God's Light. There will no longer be allowed any more wars , murders, thievery etc. or anything bad...those that refuse to abide by God's laws as they have been doing for eons of time will be sent to another 3 dimensional planet where those who have not learned what they were sent here to learn this time (Lifes Lessons) will all be sent to another place where they will live a 3 dimensional life all over again. Not a pleasant thought.... and they will keep coming back to a 3 dimensional planet until they DO learn what they were supposed to learn this time around. The new world will be beautiful and wonderful ...so why would any of us not want to go to this great new world that is coming when the time is right? |
Date: 1/8/2009 8:08:00 AM From Authorid: 54444 I know exactly what will happen on that day and the very hour. At exactly 12:00PM there will be a time warp and it will become December 22, 2012. This is a scientific certainty. What events will occur before and after will be different for different people, based upon their individual plans and activities. |

Well, yes....we should live life one day at a time. And while I"m not saying I won't be a little nervous in the days before the 21st of 2012, I don't really think its going to happen. I mean, the mayan calendar does end but, think about it, it was probably more like: "Melvin, quit obsessing! We'll be long dead by 2012!! Thats so far away! Let someone else take over writing the calendar when it runs out!" Melvin: "yea, ursula, I think you're right...my hand is starting to cramp anyways." Okay, lol...not really. But my personal feeling on it is that God wont' have the day he wants the world to end to be a highly advertised and known fact. I don't think anyone (at least not the mass majority) will know when the world is really going to end. Though I have to say the whole idea of 2012 is a bit creepy if you think about it too much. Here is a link to a really interesting article I read about it...someone's opinion of the world NOT ending dec 21, 2012: http://www.universetoday.com/2008/05/19/no-doomsday-in-2012/ ( actually read most of those related articles; very interesting things in them)! |

Date: 1/9/2009 4:04:00 AM From Authorid: 64593 The Bible says no one will know when the end is coming, not even Jesus knows. Only God does. If you would like me to find a verse I would be happy to. Just lemme know. have a good one. |

Date: 1/11/2009 12:33:00 PM From Authorid: 35720 Samantha, if by "we" are not the first sentient beings on the earth, you are referring to homo sapiens in general, we do know what happened to previous beings. They migrated, adapted, and evolved and THAT is scientifically backed. |

I did not mean to imply that the bible gave a date, but it is mentioned that there will be a great change, I think that is more accurate. Part of our problems with prophesies from the past is that they had not seen things like airplanes (I think is a safe bet) or skyscrapers and the like. If you had never seen a flying machine, how would you describe it? When we look at prophosies made in the past by many hundreds of years, you have to take 2 major things into account. First, our world is VERY different from what they live in. Not only as far as structure and politics, but as far as technology as well. In 3 days our new president, an African American, will take the oath and go from President Elect Obama to President Obama. Now, think about the most famous Illinios president before Obama. He would be the one who signed the Emancipation Proclamation. When President Lincoln fought to free the slaves, do you think he thought that one day one of them could be president. I am aware of Prsident Obama's heritage and realize he is not decended from the slaves, but his ethnic background is. Think back to the 40's with the white fountains and the black fountains. White and black hospitals. Can you imagine the uprising at that time if a black man dared to think of running for president? Now, in the last century our world has changed so much, how much has it changed in 500 years? When someone of the distant past saw a helicopter get shot down into a village, I am sure writing it more like "A Great bird of thunder will vomit fire before attacking a village" Maybe not accurate for the time, but I think you can see my meaning. Think of it from Nostrodamus's point of view: Candles without flame light our homes, heat from great beasts warm us, horseless carriages carry us. How about NY to LA in a matter of hours? When ppl read his prophesies, it is hard to interpret before the fact as it is out of their understanding until the event occurs, then, looking back, it makes sense. I was raised on the King James version of the bible, not that I really remember much of it now. But that fact of the matter is, I was raised reading, what is essentially, old English. When I tried to read Shakespear in elementary school, I believe I read Romeo and Juliet in the 5th grade, I understood it. Not the dynamics of the story, mind you, but I understood the story itself. It was not until I got older that I understood the dynamics of the story. My point is that many ppl, from many walks of life, have predicted a world changing event. Although it is interpretted as a Doomsday, I believe that Dec 21, 2012 may not be a Doomsday but a day of change. When Cortez invaded the Mayans and brought them Christianity, he believed them to be Satanists, so he burned many of the codex's. 4 remain and it is on those 4 books that the calender has been interpretted. They don't even know if the calender actually ends on 12/21/2012, it is presumption. What they DO KNOW is that SOMETHING WILL happen on that date. Does the calender end? Maybe, but them again, it may just be restarting. What we do know is that in 2012 there will be 3 eclipeses, Solar, Lunar and Venus. What we do know is that the sun will be in the very center of our Milky Way Galaxy, an event that occurs once every 26,000 years (approx). Is it coincidence that many prophets through the ages have predicted this date for a Doomsday? But what exactly is Doomsday? If I told you on this day everyone would ascend to a higher plane (like on the Stargate series) could this also be thought of Doomsday by someone who saw the event in a vision? A bright light comes them billions of ppl are gone, for someone who does not understand, they might think that something destroyed those ppl. It could be something as wonderous and our DNA being fully unlocked, imagine what we could do should this event occur. It could be something as disastrous as someone getting an itchy finger and nuclear winter decends upon us. I don't know, all I know is that SOMETHING will happen that day. |
