I'm glad you found things that work for your dog. I'd never feed my dogs any of those things, but that's a personal choice. After MUCH research, I'm honestly afraid to feed my dogs anything commercial. I know how much you love animals, so I'm sure you keep a close watch to make sure everything is fine. I'm too paranoid for my own good, I think. :P ![]() |

We only let Raven (doberman) chew on actual bones, you know the ones that they sell that are really dark brown and are big as a cow bone? I have had to pull too many of the raw hides out of her throat because they become too slick for her to chew and they just get stuck in her throat and she can't get them out. We feed her Beneful Healthy, she has thyroid problems and after many tries with other food (we tried the Iams when she was a puppy), this seems to be the one that she likes, my little 14 yr old poodle likes it too, she is a very picky eater, always has been, so for her to eat this food on her own without me having to hand feed her is great. My Mom uses that dental fresh for her 2 little poodles and some kind of doggie breath mints, works for one but not the other, she also orders her food from a company called Trilogy, her dogs are picky eaters too and they really love that dog food, you can only order it online. There is this stuff you can buy, it is like a pour on flavor for dog food (comes in a bottle that looks like a BBQ sauce bottle), I will never buy it again and would never recommend it to anyone, it gave Raven a really nasty and hard to get rid of bladder infection, took us like 6 wks to figure out that that was what was causing it, you can buy it at walmart, although I haven't seen it in our walmart the last 2/3 times I was in there. This is a great post, thanks for sharing the info...sorry if I wrote a book! ![]() |

A friend said the pound told her to feed her dog Iams® Healthy Naturals™ Lamb Meal & Rice for allergies that a lot of dogs get that cause them to chew the spot behind their tail like crazy. My Targe' was doing that bad. It was raw. So I switched him and Pepper to Iams® Healthy Naturals™ Lamb Meal & Rice and the itching stopped, hair grew back perfect. I have also taken them off all table scraps. No more leftovers. They also liked Iams Healthy Naturals™ which I had a coupon for. For treats I give them Iams Puppy Biscuits as their a nice small size for a treat. They loved the Greenies too. Both companies have websitea and coupons and Greenies has samples. For chews I use the small white ones. No brown ones. They stain the rug and stink! ![]() |

Yes, like I said every thing might not work for every dog. I am not worried about feeding anything commercial, unless there is another recall of course. There are a few commercial brands I would never feed based on my veterinary experience. (I am really not a fan of Ol Roy, I have never seen dogs do well on that diet.) Thanks for the replies. ![]() |

Also, I tried feeding my dog some of those really expensive all natural diets before switching her over. She actually did not do well on the all natural expensive diet. Even though these can be good diets, I have actually noticed that some of them lack protein and other nutrients that dogs need. I was surprised because I thought all natural would be the best for any dog, but sometimes it isn't. ![]() |
